As long as you are actually involved in class (you do most of the readings, you talk in discussions etc), she'll make sure that you aren't left hanging. Her assignments are really clear and she's more than willing to help if you take the time to contact her. Also, if you miss an assignment, she will let you make it up if you have a valid reason.

Dr. Calder is a fair marker, kind to students out of class, and personable during lectures. She encourages class discussion, although she won't put you on the spot. There was a good variety of material in her Canadian Lit class, there was something for everyone to enjoy!

CAN LIT: Great prof, impressive lecturer, loves the subject and it shows. Fair marker. Definitely NOT averse to differing opinions but expects you to prove your point and write solidly. My only complaint is that I would have enjoyed more class discussion, but overall a witty & knowledgeable prof who is very helpful outside of class as well.

She provides detailed, useful feedback on improving term work and even provides ideas for different options to seek writing advice. I really enjoyed her class and learned a lot from her

She's a passionate professor who obviously loves what she does, and if you talk lot in her class, she'll love you too. The one thing I hated about her teaching style is that when going over a book, she isn't very open minded to other's perspective on how they perceive the book; her opinions are the "correct" ones - and your essay makes will suffer

Class was sometimes interesting, she did give some good points on the books we read. Hard marker, in high school I had a teacher that used to teach at Yale and got As on my papers but in her class the highest mark I got was a B+ :s. Be prepared to do a lot of reading, 9 novels and a ton of short stories and poems

Unfortunately, Professor Calder's class was a huge disappointment for me. She didn't seem to make any effort to connect with the students; she actually only knew a couple of our names by the end of the term. Furthermore, her markers were clearly incompetent and they provided no descriptive feedback of any use. :(

She is ok...not the best thats foresure! She has this thing where she sticks her hands in her pockets during her lectures!! Stop it!! Otherwise, she is ok. If you want a class that you can boost your GPA, go for it. I got a A+ and skipped out most of the year!

I liked her as a prof. Very intelligent and interesting. Kind of unclear however when it comes to assignments and certainly a very tough marker, but I did receive an A on one of the papers, so not impossible. Exam topics were too broad and you had to guess what questions she would ask. Good novels, but too many of them, Pepper is clearly debatable.

Hands down the best English prof. I've ever had. She is funny, explains thing very well, knows her stuff, encourages questions and opinions, and is easy to talk to. Brought in two poets for them to read from their work. Generally good books and poems, though there are some exceptions, both good and bad. The exam is interesting (in a good way).
