Comment:

As a student new to programming, I found John's teaching to be clear. He may come across as intimidating at first, but over time you will discover he has a great sense of humor. Prepares you well for each test, no surprises. He has been in the field for a long time, knows his stuff, and has great advise to offer. All you have to do is ask him.

Basically teaches what he pleases easy A, but you don't really learn much tho he knows what he's doing super rude at times, can't be late meh I'd take him again no assignments and he basically gives you the exam so win win.

Awesome teacher. Really knows his stuff. Other teachers read from Powerpoint or tell you to read the textbook. Karolyi actually TEACHES and explains WHY you should do things his way. His knowledge is extensive and his examples go way beyond copying textbook code. Take his class and you'll have an easy time in Java 2. The best programming teacher.

This guy's a REAL teacher. People who want to copy and paste code or read lame slides online are missing the point. Karolyi actually teaches you how to program and what it takes to work in industry. Yeah, he's tough, but he knows his stuff and gives you insights you won't find elsewhere. Best teacher at Sheridan if you want to learn to program.

John's classes are really tough, and I love it! He is the only teacher I have seen in Sheridan that knows exactly what he is doing 100% of the time. It is sad there are not more like him, because I have learned so much.

John made Java easy to learn with great examples, funny anecdotes and great hands-on applications. He really made semester one for me. Make sure to keep up with the readings and pay attention to what he says. Great teacher!

The BEST teacher for programming at Sheridan. He doesn't depend on PowerPoint or textbooks. He TEACHES you how to program (not how to copy type). Attend his lectures, pay attention, follow his instructions, and do as he says, and you'll learn more than in all other programming classes combined. Sheridan needs more teachers like John Karolyi.

Well, I choose him by reading the reviews over here. His classes are not that great, you will be typing what he types most of the time. He does explains things very well! But it's hard to follow his lectures. There won't be any notes source codes posted online , the only way to learn the course is by going to the class!

If you are passionate about programming or simply have aptitude for that sort of thing you will enjoy this class. Otherwise be warned that you might be in for a rough ride. As others have noted John Karolyi is a very knowledgable guy but if you are struggling expect little to no sympathy or help from him. It's pretty much sink or swim.

John Karolyi is one of the best teachers I've ever had. His style can be be raw for the first few weeks; you will need to adjust. But the magic that is John Karolyi begins to pay dividends. You just have to do the following: Listen to and do what he says; don't slack and he will set you on the right path.

This guy works a treat. It is mission critical you show up to every class, if you do, your ducksoup. Easy class and learn a lot. Tells you everything that will be on the test but has the compassion of the compiler, if you goof, it's goodnight Irene!

The bad: Can be pretty mean. People rarely ask questions in class because they're afraid of being embarrassed. The good: Knowledgeable. Expectations are very clear. Can be funny if he's in a good mood. Wouldn't have minded having some assignments to apply knowledge. Grade was 100% quiztest.

Kind of hard, but if you come to class and pay attention, you'll pass the course. You may find some difficulties on first or second week but after that, B+ gonna be your standard for grades (If you pay attention!) I remember first Quiz i got 60% and the rest of the semester i got A or A+ "Result is directly proportional to EFFORT" - JK

John is an incredible instructor. He is by far the best I have had at Sheridan. He will be tough on you, but he gives you EVERYTHING you need to know. If you don't attend classes, don't expect to pass. He is clear on everything you need in and out of college and if you pay attention, you'll do well. Don't expect a free ride.

If you get John as an instructor, DO AS HE SAYS and ALWAYS ALWAYS PAY ATTENTION! he is excellent and will actually teach you how to write Java, you r programs will be Done like Dinner in no time.
