I convocated in 2002. During my time I took many of Prof Macleod's classes, at least one per semister, at times two. I never did figure out if he liked me personally, but I can say that more than 10 years later more than any other educator I have come across I admire the span of his knowledge and the committment he made to quality understanding.

Very bright and very well-informed on the subject of American politics. Lectures were a little bit hit or miss as he can be tough to follow at times but other times is very engaging. Fair marker. I would recommend.

Great prof. Highly recommend taking these courses if you are at all interested in American politics. Course is easy (IMO) because it is interesting, and he keeps it relevant. Very informative. Marks are fair, if you put in a little effort and go to class you'll do very well.

Lectures are very dry. You have to read the text before class or you will be lost during his lectures. I found he could be demeaning to a lot of student's comments/questions. This certainly doesn't encourage class discussion. Don't expect to get your final grade back quickly.

One of the most brilliant professors I have ever had the chance to meet. While he is a harder marker than most, he is still fair. He has a good sense of humour and knows what he is lecturing about.

Probably the smartest prof I've ever had. He gives fun and clear lectures, and his frequent depressing commentary on the world is hilarious. Great balance of both theory and practice (rare). He gives fair and relatively easy exams, but you can't expect to write an essay the night before and get away with it - he will catch you.

Professor MacLeod is the most knowledgeable, stimulating and learned prof I have ever had at the U of S. If you take his class, be prepared to read the assignments, listen closely and above all reflect on what YOU think about the topic. Rhetoric will get you nowhere with Allan and he will challenge you to defend your position! This is a good thing!

Easily the most knowledgeable professor I have ever been instructed by (inside his field and out). He enjoys simple, poignant writing. Trying to BS your way, will not work. I have taken 4 courses by him and will take more. A very fair marker.

Professor MacLeod is a knowledgeable guy and truly cares about what he teaches. Sometimes indulges the PoliSci geeks in his class too much at the expense of everyone else, but overall a good instructor if you are interested in politics. Also, it's great fun trying to predict what his hair will look like on any given day.

Very eccentric, but quite possibly one of the most knowledgeable professors i have ever seen. His class structure is very well organized, and he can pretty much answer any question you may have increadibly thoroughly. I would not recommend the class unless you have a serious interest in politics and philosophy though.

Allan is an excellent classroom lecturer, a true intellectual, and quite eccentric in the best professorial sense of the word. Knows his US politics, knows his political philosophy, and I suspect knows about 100 other areas in depth. A remarkable man.

MacLeod is a very intelligent man - he is a good teacher - if you're interested in Political studies, you'll get a very interesting look from his class. However he is quite a difficult marker...if you want to be challenged take his course. If you want an easy ride, find someone else.
