Comment:

I've taken 3 courses with her and I honestly think she's one of my favourite professors. Yes, she is sometimes unorganized and fails to respond to emails and what not, but she is extremely flexible . She is very passionate about the subjects she discusses and makes sure that her students are genuinely learning as opposed to just repeating material

Comment:

Takes incompetence and prejudice to soaring new heights. In 25 years of scholastic pursuits I've never seen anything so bad. Only 10 people in the class, and at the end of the year (having never missed a class) she didn't know who I was.

It's really a shame that the study of religion should be taught in such a way to make you hate it. If this class is not a requirement do NOT take it. I HATED this class with a PASSION! I encourage the professor to show more concern for the students.

Due to the lack of structure, organization or basic anything this course was useless and a waste of money. I have a paper due in 4 days, 15 pages, I have emailed her for the past 3 weeks for help and still no reply! The entire year was based on her own one-sided opinions, any others were wrong. To top it we learnt NOTHING!

My main problem with the course was it's poor structure. The critical texts hardly related to the novels for which they were supposed to frame. We were not given proper critical tools to analyze the texts. In a sense, it was like we were taking two courses at once. I do recommend this prof tho. She rarely responds to emails.

what on earth possesssssed me to take this course?!?!?! Yeesh! It was all about ISLAM, such propaganda, so one-sided, biased, subjective... is this even allowed to be taught at University?!?!? She's so hateful towards difference, does not welcome anything other then pro-islamic ideas... it's just too much and too biased.

Of course she is going to emphasize Islam when her courses FOCUS on Islam! Her course on the Balkans will obviously have much to do with Islam seeing how the recent conflicts are related to the Muslim Ottomans and the introduction of Islam into Southeast Europe. Buturovic is a good teacher, but needs direction. Fair marker, kind person.

Comment:

Buturovic is a wonderful teacher however the course lacked structure and direction. Her positive analysis of the Ottomans is only to counter the idea of Turkish savagery and intolerance, which is an incorrect conclusion drawn from a European bias. Although not perfect in their treatment of their subjects, they were relatively more accomodating.

She is definitely a very capable prof but she tries to get away with as little work as possible which means a lot of self-teaching. the course is based primarly on class presentations an readings of the reserve shelf. not to mention that her idea of the tolerant and wonderful ottomans is definitely biased
