VERY hard course, it is a filter for engineering, but it was very interesting. Easily the best course I had this semester. Kumar tells you exactly what to study, the textbook is actually pretty good / enjoyable, but it will still be hard. You have to work for a good grade. DO NOT take this course if you have more than 5 courses.

Exceptional Prof. Recently has been teaching E&M to "York University level" engineering students so of course the bitter ones are going to come to this site and leave him a bad score. He does not make it unreasonable to work hard in his courses and get a good grade. Lazy engineering students will always amount to nothing at ANY university.

Kumar definitely knows his stuff but this course is unnecessarily hard for 2nd year. Material is derivations and theory. No labs, quizzes are worth 50% of ur grade, exam is 50%. Textbook only for homework problems. Go to tutorials and lectures. Quizzes are based off of them. Class average is gonna be less than 60 but he doesnt care. Good luck. :(

I just finished PHYS 2020 as a 2nd year student; here's what I have to say about Kumar. He is a good professor but you need not attend his lectures if you read the book. Go to the tutorials as he gives out the homework answers there. The final is very difficult, but if you put in the work earlier to ace the quizzes it will balance out your grade.

Professor Kumar is truly a gold standard as there's a lot that can be said about his fantastic teaching methodologies. He will no doubt make students work their butts off to get a good grade in his class but that's to be expected from the hardest second year physics course. York is lucky to have him as he's undoubtedly one of the best profs/teacher

Oh Kumar, he is difficult to explain in words. I once felt really bad that I came ill prepared for his exam (which he knew), and he later told me the following: "it is good to know concepts and be able to apply them, but better to not know and still be able to figure out the problem". I ended up doing quite well, and he is extremely nice/helpful.

One of two of the best profs I have had at York! Even though I did not get the grade I was hoping for, I still think this man is great! He is VERY passionate about the field of optical physics, and not only that but a very good teacher. He works hard to clarifies everything, and expects you to do the same, which is work hard to EARN your grade.

Class was kinda interesting. Knew material well, and was enthusiastic about it. Came to class tired sometimes (Probably from researching all night). Previous years were given 2 hrs to do tests but we only had 1, but he gave us test of the same length. He should have made them shorter. Overall, a pretty good prof. Liked to yell out GAUSS' LAW!

Kumar is a great prof. and a talented researcher. He is innovative, dedicated, and should be given more room to explore new cirriculum options by the faculty. Kumar is keenly interested in experimental nuances, but ultimately wants to add to fundamentals through studying atomic coherences. Great guy
