Comment:
I took HIST 338 so you deal only with the TA. I had Steven Bozanich and he was a great TA. So if you have him for your class, then you are in good hands. He is incredibly helpful and always willing to clear up matters that are complicated. HIST 338 is a lot of writing, a lot of reading, and a lot of papers with one final. Try a little bit.

Comment:
Don't take HIST 277 as your B-hum credit unless you absolutely adore Greek history. What the others say is 100% true, it's not worth it. There is an absurd amount of readings that are often not very relevant, and the writing is on par with W classes that I've taken. A lot of work and a major pain in the butt.

Lots of writing and reading. took online and only dealt with TM. TM was difficult to contact and the grading criterion was minimal. Covers a long period of time so there is a lot of information to absorb.

HIST 277 says it's taught by Gerolymatos but like most online classes, you'll deal with a TM. Tons of writing, surprised it's not a W course. You'll write nearly 10,000 words between everything. Readings are all online w/ short weekly quizzes on them. Not super hard though - you don't have to remember anything since the Midterm & final are online

Did not speak to the online class even once. I appreciate the help of the tutor Jeremy Millroy, but the prof is useless. Course is pretty hard. You need to somehow memorize 4000 years of history into one exam.

No clear expectations for assignments & little feedback, course was called greece occupation to resistance, Greece not covered until last 2 classes, yes context is important but so is covering the theme and topic of the class. Usually take ratemyprof with a grain of salt, but most feedback is dead on... would not take a class w/ this prof again.

Great prof. His lectures are engaging and is obviously very passionate about what he teaches. This was the most interesting course I have taken at University so far.

Some students don't like the fact they get let after only two hours of a four hour class. I on the other hand love it. But what I did not like is the lack of effort andre put into grading papers. Comments at the end of the paper would be appreciated.

I took ancient Greek history (309) with him and he is NOT a hard marker. In fact it was the best history course I've taken at SFU.

this is one lazy prof. i'm surprised he does not request ta's to help him with the grading. it took him three weeks to give back 20 mid sized history papers and he only teaches the one class. but then i noticed he went to school at mcgill so that is where ho picked up his lazy habits from.

The course was great!By far the best professor in the Hist. Depart. It is true that he doesnt answer emails&provides little or no feedback on your assignments, but the assignments were so easy, that u don't need any further comments.Easy A.Andre is an intellectual, who is knowledgeable in not only European Hist.I recommend Andres class to everyone :)

My one complaint with this is the fact that Gerolymatos marks on the hard side, but his lectures are interesting and his classes are structured well. For those history students at sfu who are interested in ancient greek history, he's the prof to teach it.

I want my money back. The prof evidently thinks its enough to show up for the requisite time and ramble incoherently for a few hours and then leave. My paper had a letter grade and NO comments. All five emails over the semester went unanswered

He evidently believes that being a prof only involves showing up to give the most boring, and uninspiring lectures on the planet. Forget his posted office hours, they are make believe. Probably doesn't own a computer because he certainly never answers emails.

Class can be a real snooze. Only way you will know he actually teaches is that he shows up in class. Never ever around and forget about emailing him because he is never around.

Probably the best professor I had at SFU. Interesting subject matter, intelligent discussions. Maybe people should actually read the readings. Could be around a little more though.
