Does not grade his students according to the course difficulty but rather *his* difficulty. Off the bat, he has unrealistic expectations beyond our course difficulty and grades our work without leaving CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. If you don't attend class, you will lose participation points. If you do, you're doomed for a terrible lecture. Can't win.

DO NOT TAKE ENGLISH WITH HIM. I always liked English and I always thought Im good at it until I took it with him. He made me hate the course I used to love. And this was the first time I got C in a course (I always get more than B+ in my other courses)

Do not take this professor. Heavy lectures and gives you a lot of homework worth a big chunk of your mark. It's my first semester ever in university and I feel like i'm already about to fail because of him. I try my hardest on assignments but it doesn't matter much because he marks so hard i'll still get a bad grade.

He's a terrible lecturer. He's too expectant of his students to have a lot of background knowledge prior to the course and won't explain anything in depth. He'll tell you what you're doing wrong but won't offer up ways to fix it.

I took his class in the September semester, and he was my least favourite. He gave good feedback on your assignments but graded you impossibly heavy and forced you to conform to a really intense format. Sometimes in lectures he will go off on rants that can last a long time if you set him off just right that won't help you at all. Be warned!

Overall, the worst prof ever. As a first year student, I tried my best to keep up with his long assignments, however, it wasn't just me who was struggling. There were 30 students in the beginning, and after the W deadline, only 15 students were left and most of us were failing. Bartlett is rude and calls you out on many things. His class was brutal

He was very understanding and willing to help students when asked. I missed an assignment or two but that didn't affect me very much because he gave us bonus assignments that I was able to complete and use to better my grade. He is a very easy going teacher who gives you assignments, goes over them as many times as you need in order to understand

Not a bad teacher, but he will make you work for it. He gives out too many papers(hard to keep track of if you're not careful). I was actually doing well in his class until the very end. I felt that even though I followed through his specifications and did well on his assignments and quizzes, I still felt that I didn't get the grade I deserved.

He was very clear on what he expected for assignments, and class discussions were REALLY helpful in terms of analyzing texts. He gave me in-depth feedback on my papers, and for once ACTUALLY MADE ME FEEL CONFIDENT in my writing capabilities. Best of all, really interesting choice of texts. Would recommend for English Majors.

Would be a great philosophy prof, but not so much an english prof. I would have preferred he kept more to technical writing than philosophical analysis of essays. However, as a person, he was a very nice guy. Picky on how he wanted things done exactly his way which may have not worked for some unfortunately. Lots of homework too.

An absolutely horrible professor. Condescending and rude and instead of giving constructive criticism on the essays he makes sure to include a rude and critical analysis of it. As someone who loves english (not just taking it for an easy A), it was ridiculous the amount of work I had to put into the class. Regardless of my mark, he is very rude.

Smart man, but it's clear he doesn't enjoy teaching. Lots of office hours available for help if you don't mind his condescending attitude. You get the feeling in his class that he'd rather see students fail than succeed and do well. When half the class frequently drops out it should be a clear sign that something is wrong.
