I do not enjoy this class at all. He might be a good math professor, but he is not a good elementary education professor. I pretty much had to teach myself & he would sometimes tell us wrong information. Also it's on a 7-point scale.

Comment:

Should you be taking topology at VCU there are a number of professors on the faculty(namely the entire department) who can handily express the material and guide you through the basic workings of this basal subject, but few as well as Professor Lewis, participation is key but one will leave his class with a sturdy foundation and deep appreciation.

He's nice, but his lectures were barely bearable. All of us fell asleep at one point or another. He knows what he's talking about, but he doesn't always explain things well it until the lecture right before the test.

Prof. Lewis is just not a good teacher for those students who did not take Calc in HS and who are not very confident in their mathematics knowledge & abilities. I felt very lost, left behind, and confused. Once, 2/3 of our class failed an exam, so he let us take another to be averaged with the previous. Unfortunately, the issue was not alleviated.

Sweet heavenly entity, is this guy a great professor. He was extremely accessible, even when he had prior commitments. He has (had?) a fairly quick pace, but as the semester progressed and he got to know his students, he found the perfect pace to explain it the first time in class. I felt as though he just copied and pasted notes straight from the textbook. He did an average job of explaining how to do problems. Hw due daily, 2 tests and a final. If you turned the hw in through email he would add an extra 10 pts to your grade so recommend doing that. If you have trouble go to his office hrs where he is more helpful.

I felt like Lewis bombed on connecting his notes and lecture with the assigned coursework. His class examples didn't assist in assignments or tests. Often I was graded on material that didn't have textbook resources, nor a thorough explanation during class. Nor was there a solid prereq for this class. 300 does not prepare you, nor does calc.

He's old but a cool guy, he's also smart but at times he can't convey the ideas clearly. Attendance is not mandatory but it's definitely helpful if you go to class. If you have any problems, see him in his office hours, he's really helpful outside class, he's also the Math Dept Chair

Are you kidding me he was not that good! He sweated a lot, he smelled, & he kept saying "Ah". Only thing that helped me was going to his office. He constantly kept making mistakes while doing the problem which made things confusing. Very leniant on final grade though!
