He records his lectures so you are able to go back and review when needed. The class material is very hard to grasp and if you don't understand point group's you will not be successful. Dr. Sargent expects a lot out of you and in order to be successful on an exam you have to know the material very well.

Was my second time taking the class with this professor and will have to retake yet again. Worst professor. The way he teaches and treats his students is sad.

Whatever I have learned this semester has been on my own. He doesn't teach.. and this class is VERY difficult, so trying to learn it on your own with a professor who doesn't care is a million times harder. He does not care about his students whatsoever. Overall there is nothing about him that was useful all semester.

By far the worst instructor so far in my undergrad. Very stubborn almost everyday, almost like he hates us. Used the textbook for just Test 1. Same attitude in lab. Boasts about his 20+ experience in his field over & over and his teaching methods are horrible.

RUDE RUDE RUDE. Did I mention RUDE? He's so disrespectful to his students. If you don't agree with him he will let you know. I've had to bite my tongue in lab and class more times than I can count. Don't ask questions in lab its not worth the torment. He's the worst prof I've had so far at ECU. Not to mention his class was nearly impossible

Sargent is by far the best teacher I have had at ECU. He really cares about his students. It is important that you take advantage of his tutoring sessions and office hours. Many students view him as mean, but that is only because he takes chemistry so seriously. If you are a good student I highly recommend taking his class, you will not regret it.

Sargent is not a helpful teacher. if you ask a question that he feels shouldn't be asked he makes you look dumb in front of everyone. Very hard material but he does curve the tests a little bit. Im doing fine so far but it is by yourself. Read the book like he says and youll be fine. Don't take him if you cant teach yourself. Because he is no help.

Sargent may come across as an intimidating teacher, but is very nice & very helpful. The material can be extremely difficult, especially Group Theory, but if you go to his office, he'll do what he can to help you. I just wish I would have taken advantage of this before the final week of school. If you're willing to ask for help, he's a good teacher

Dr Sargent is a good chem lab teacher as long as you follow the lab rules and get on his good side. To be on his good side all you really have to do is be a good and serious student. He's very clear, but I'll admit he's a little intimidating to ask questions to in lab. I'd usually ask the TA's instead. Good teacher though.

Very Very hard teacher. He isn't there to teach you. You are supppose to self-teach by reading text. We are not suppose to come and ask questions unless the answer is not in the text.!

Easy to pass class. Lots of extra credit so you won't need a curve. I struggled in this class, but there was no reason for me to struggle. Very, very fair instructor. The course material is easy if you listen, do practices exams, and review your notes. If he seems like a jerk, just know he's really on your side! Very encouraging! Wonderful teacher!

Definitely learned more in this class than both PChem classes combined. Sargent takes his teaching very seriously and he loves when people begin to understand things at a deeper level. The "surprises" people talk about on his tests are what make him a good professor. Don't ask dumb questions, though...he'll eat you alive.

He is not a teacher. The first day he tells you he isn't there to teach you. Make sure you read and learn on your own because he won't help. And his tests.....be careful to study everything because he will pull stuff out that you would never expect to be on there.

I had this class a few years ago when I was at ECU, and I loved it. His tests can be hard, but he only tests on things he has covered in class. He also used to have study sessions almost every week, which were very helpful.
