Comment:
It is obvious Dr. Kalinowski is super passionate about what she specializes in (Roman), which helps her teach and get points across to students, but her PowerPoints need work, in that they could be more informative and coherent. Overall, great info, great textbook choice, fair tests & grading & good teaching. Would take again.

Despite some long readings, her class was very enjoyable. Lectures were interesting, exams were straightforward, and the final came exactly as advertised. If you go to class, pay attention, and put some time into your work, you'll be golden.

I enjoyed her lectures and if you study and read assigned texts as the course progresses you should be fine! I've always done well on the exams and good to great on the essays. I enjoyed the fact she allows freedom for topics for the essays as choosing something you're personally interested in makes writing and researching so much better.

Smart Prof, encourages discussion. Method to her style, do the readings and it all comes together. Very helpful and approachable. There are few topics and Profs more interesting at UofS. I had some personal issues, and she was cool about it.

Okay teacher. Avoid this class if possible. Was extremely interested in the topic, now I am not. Final exam is impossible to study for - includes one full text book (300+ pages), weeks worth of slides, another textbook, and any lecture information. Long exam as well!

Angela Kalinowski is HIGHLY underrated! I would actually recommend her for a 1st year class. If you are willing to go to all classes, you are set. Everything that is discussed in class is what will be on exams. Some content is rather dull but she has a funny sense of humor. Also, love her style! She's kind of quirky. TAs mark the papers, not her.

I have taken multiple classes with her. Brilliant Prof, Hard marker but willing to help you. If you put in the work, she will put in the same. She's the reason I'm an Ancient History Major. If you can hack the class, you'll be a better student for it!

Meh. Essays weren't marked overly hard. Class was essentially mandatory as almost everything on the tests were covered in class. Final was stupid hard though. I'd avoid her unless you need it or really like the course. I don't know why she skipped the interesting stuff like wars, but focused on what the people used in their lives.

Very hard marker. Unfair actually. I'm an A student and she gave me by far the lowest mark on a paper that I'd received in years. She simply expects too much from undergrad students and I'm not one who normally complains. The pace of this class was weird too. Very slow on boring material and then she speeds through the interesting stuff too fast.

This class is terrible. She made me lose all interest in ancient history! Have fun writing her tests and getting terrible marks on essays, even if she "helps" you with it!

Boring in class and a tough marker. Isn't clear at all on what materials are important, making the tests hard to study for.. Unfortunate, because she made the final harder than it had to be.

A lovely woman. Funny. He rpowerpoints are useless so dont expect to study solely off her slides and get better than a 60 on an exam.

Great prof. She knows and loves her subject. She expects a lot out of you, but this should be the norm. Her course work isn't easy but she is a fair marker and if you put in the work you'll be rewarded. Approachable and willing to help her students. Come willing to work and learn and you should enjoy it.

VERY hard marker. The help that she gave with essays was quite vague and unspecific. Gave good lectures (funny stories)...especially with the important women of the time.

She's a little scatterbrained, but I do find the material very interesting. Her lectures can be difficult to follow, as she tends to mix up people's names all the time. However, she is very knowledgeable, lots of reading (but interesting). I did find her difficult to talk to about my paper though.
