She will interrupt class and stare at you until you stop using your phone, you can only use your computer if you seat in the first two rows, she is nice and can understand if you have a problem, but her way of teaching is kind of old, her exams and tests are easy just study from her PPTs, she wont let you take pictures of anything.

She's very old school but she is also very intelligent and amazing professor! I love her passion for teaching and making us all engage as a class to talk about the readings. There are these little "article maps" due almost every class period and then 3 small papers its really not bad! take her!!

Prof Miles is incredibly interesting and intelligent. She loves to hear from the students and truly puts student needs and ideas first. She is a tough grader, but she is not unreasonable. TAKE HER CLASS!!

This is the type of class where you must teach yourself. Assigns articles to read for homework every night (20-40 pages long) & has class discussions. That is how the entire semester went. In order to receive a good grade you should agree with her POV ®urgitate exactly what she says. She also rarely gives out As on anything, says so herself.

She makes you read 4 books, and discuss them every class period (class participation is a grade). & then write a paper on every book. There are assignments due everyday & if you miss class you can't turn them in. It's a writing intensive class. I literally did not have any time for my other classes due to the amount of work in this class alone!

She makes you work for a good grade, but it's a 4000 level class, what did you expect? The class is fascinating and she knows so much about the subject. Decent amount of homework, but if you do the readings- which you need to, the work takes ~15 minutes most nights. Some papers, but she gives as much help as you ask for great feedback. 10/10

She really knows her material and is very willing to talk to you if you aren't understanding. There is quite a bit of homework but she is very reasonable on deadlines and grading isn't too tough. If you don't go to class you will struggle. I learned a lot in this class and I really enjoyed the material.

A lot to do, a lot to read, a lot to write. But she is very passionate towards teaching her students and challenging your thinking. Don't take if you expect an easy professor.

Should just be called Adv. Anthropology! 4 books to read, 5-7 page papers due weekly !!ON TOP OF!! writing out chapter outlines or from extra readings posted online. I'm a good student and I have no clue how I'll manage this course along with 4 others. Take Adv. SOC with someone else if possible. She doesn't give 100% because you're never perfect

Such a neat course and professor! Lots of readings. This course, although technically a sociology one, is taught within an anthropological framework. Write well, critically analyze the readings, and regularly participate in discussions. You will be rewarded.

Great instructor! Dr. Miles expects you to be there for every class and her exams cover everything she has lectured on plus the books. However, she does everything on Power Point and will make sure you've written all the notes down before she moves on. She wants you to do well and will happily explain things if you ask.

This professor has taught the class too long. She is arrogant and not helpful. She isn't even part of the Antrho department. Her lectures are useless info for taking the test. This is my major and this is the worst teacher I have ever had within the major. If I did not have prior knowledge I would not pass this class and I am an honor student.

I think she is a great prof... You had better do the readings and know your 'schyt', but if you come to class prepared and work hard on your writing, you will do well. If you have a problem come to her office hours [she is not that scarry!]... oh and her TA this semester (fall06) is really cute... he looks like Orlando Bloom! God!

Good overall teacher with alot of hands-on knowledge about the material covered. DONT MISS LECTURES, since everything is taken from the notes and she basically explains the 4 books youre supposed to read to you, in effect making it unneccessary to read the books. Good class to knock out for a gen ed and a breeze if youre an anthro major or minor.

Requires you to buy and read four different books, including her own. If you don't mind alot of reading on Latin American cultures the class is not bad. If it is just a gen ed course for you and you don't like the subject beforehand, you won't afterwards. She is also a hardcore liberal, but she teaches womens studies courses as well, so go figure.
