One of the most brilliant professors I've ever heard speak. Her intro to Comp Lit class sold me on the major. I often wished I could record the lectures just to rewatch and listen again to the things she said. Though she can be very scattered, every sentence she speaks feels so intelligent and thoughtful that I found myself delighted just to listen

Prof. Francois is amazing--a real gem in the Comp Lit department. Her lectures for Comp Lit 190 were unconventional and encouraged critical thinking and discussion in a positive setting. She is incredibly brilliant, articulate and insightful.

I really liked her class. She wanted to feel poetry instead of just know about it It was great. I loved her class. I don't know about her English classes though. I think overall she may be better at teaching poetry than English.

Interesting, quirky lady. Lots of great ideas, but goes off on tangents and can be confusing. Once you get her style the class is very easy. She appreciates ideas more than anything else, so on the papers (4 papers no tests) get all your ideas on the paper and then organize. Go to class as much as you can, but it's okay to miss sometimes.

I think her strength is in small, discussion oriented classes. She is very accommodating and thoughtful of the needs of her students, though she can be a little disorganized at times. The discussions were always engaging. if you are willing to just sit back and follow the thread of the class, it's a truly valuable experience. I loved this class.

Had a seminar on Austen with Francois and it was amazing. You have to do the thinking, but you are thoughtfully and provocatively guided. Definitely one of the most likable professors while at Berkeley; among the most liberal and imaginative, too. Read Open Secrets. It's difficult but awesome still. I couldn't imagine not loving her.

She is nervous and confused in class, but pretty sure of herself when she's telling you why your papers are no good. If you want to learn about English Romantic poetry, or just get bored listening to an hour and a half of undirected rambling, avoid her classes.

She is remarkably intelligent, but close minded to any interpretation that conflicts with her own. She honestly seems like she wants to help, but simply does not know how to bring herself down from her academic soap box. I regret that I learned nothing but how to hate a subject I love.

This **** is the queen bee motha****as. If you are smart and not****ty her classes are totally sweet. If you suck, and are****ty as well, you may run into some problems. The only decent teacher in Comp Lit as far as this whodi is concerned.
