Comment:

Dr. Teate knows his stuff but forget about asking questions in class, that's usually met with "you should already know this" and then he moves on. The information in the class is really important if you want to learn Python. If you take his class, be prepared to figure out most of it yourself.

The rudest professor/teacher I have ever encountered, he is always in a really bad mood and very irritable. Tough grader, however if you put in the work, at least a B is defiantly doable. He lectures very fast and his slides are terrible, you will end up teaching yourself most of the material.

This Professor honestly hates his job, is very boastful of himself and absolutely hates dealing with students. Avoid at all costs. Very snippy and if you don't understand something he becomes angry very easily. Again, avoid this professor.

Do not take him!!! He is arrogant and acts like the students are way below him. Makes you feel stupid if you ask a question he does not want to answer. My least favorite professor at JMU. I am a Junior. HE DOES NOT CARE!!

I was convinced I was going to fail this class at the beginning. He is a bit intimidating at first, but if you go to class and put forth the effort it is manageable. The Q's on the test are very similar to the quizzes he gives. Also there's weekly HW which will boost your grade. Teate is a genius. Ended up being my favorite prof I've had at JMU.

Teate is one of the worst professors I've had. Very vague directions, yet very tough grading. Always 10+ minutes late to class, expects you to already know what you're doing. Rude to students who ask questions, really just seems like he tries to make students look dumb. Not responsive to emails

You have to be prepared to teach yourself because he goes through things really fast. Overall he is a cool guy and he is also very smart, if you ever need help just ask him. He changes due dates all the time to make things fair for everyone. However he is also extremely detail oriented, you will miss a lot of points if you do not do what he says.

He has high expectations of his students and the class is very fast paced. If you don't understand something he expects you to ask for clarification and if you fall behind he'll leave you there however his door is always open. Attending class is very beneficial as he encourages you to follow along with the lectures via hands-on components.

Teate's a fast paced guy so don't be afraid to ask him or your TA for help. Not a hard class, the textbook is fantastic and very easy to follow. Tests are TF, multiple choice, and short answer. Use the review sections in the back of each chapter on the textbook and you'll do fine! Interesting and practical class if programming interests you.

Teate is an extremely smart man and really cares about his students. If you need help, ask him for it and he's more than willing to do what he can for you. Weekly homework, not too long but definitely do it because it clears up any confusion you have about the lessons. Gives study guides before each test, go through them and you'll do fine.

Teate is an unclear and ineffective lecturer. Me and my lab partner struggled to understand his presentations and he stutters. Teate ALWAYS arrives to class late, and he assigns due dates as he pleases so you never know when work is due until the day of class. Not recommended unless you have lots of extra time to work on programming on your own !

If you have to take 252, take it with Teate! The man is beyond smart and has a great sense of humor. He moves quickly but it is not difficult to keep pace with and the majority of your grade is based on labs that are not hard if you just dedicate a little time to them! Great intro to programming. Teate will grow on you. Go to class, there's no textbook so that's where you learn. Get to know your TA. Class moves really fast and but he's got a great sense of humor and is willing to help--the material will get you employed. He's also brilliant and cares a lot about ISAT. I am taking my third class with Teate and he really is the man. May be intimidating at first, since he moves fast and may joke with you but he will ALWAYS help you, no matter how busy he is. Really cares about his students. His classes are pretty challenging but you really actually learn the material. Take him! Then stay after class and chat :)
