This is a great guy but NOT a great TEACHER, at all. He would constantly leave the 6 hour class for three hours talking to other teachers in the hallway. He was never around to answer our questions, and he did not teach the class anything. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES, he can't teach!

I've got to admit, this class was tough! Inking is no joke. It has to be absolutely flawless to get an A, expect to spend countless hours to PERFECT! Holland is a good professor, very knowledgeable and professional. You need to ask questions for more clarity! Got an A in the class, it was NOT easy. Spent HOURS on projects and studying for tests!

professor Holland is a hard teacher. but you will learn a lot actually!! even thought he gave low grades on your assignments, if you asked for feedback, then you can improve your assignment every time, then you learn. you must hard study for the tests, cuz the tests are important for your grades, 3 tests are 30% of your grades.i got B BTW...

Extremely hard grader, class should never be missed and the time should really be used to work because there is a LOT of work. You ink letters by hand, but do thumbs in illustrator first to get feedback. You will need the textbook. I would wait for another teacher to teach this class before you consider taking it unless you enjoy typography.

If you are a visual learner, steer clear of this class. He gives you no examples, and does not show you how to do any of the techniques. He will verbally tell you what he expects of a project, and during the process you can ask him what he thinks of your work and you will get zero opinion from him until he grades it. Not one A given in the class.

He gets straight to the point with feedbacks and straightforward w/directions.The book is definitely required. theres three quiz&five projects.He tells you whats on the quiz. It's hard to get an A unless it is "PERFECT" I mean, seriously, perfect as if you did it digitally and printed it out.He just likes to keep it simple.Very time consuming class

I think his teaching methods are awful. I felt like I learned nothing but just did the assignments. His grading sucks, with little feedback on what you could work on for the next project. Dont take if you dont have a steady hand or paint well lol he takes off for the even the smallest mistake.

AWESOME... very blunt. got good feedback and directions. if you easily get your feelings hurt. dont take his class. time management is key. workload is intense, but come on, im a full time student taking 12 units of studio classes and i work 30 hours a week... 11 weeks in and im gettin an A in the class along with the other classes.

I was told many times that my ideas had already been done and he constantly had me re-do my work. His discouragment turned me to change my major, as he made me feel that I was insuficient as a graphic designer. Unfair in his grading. Gives no direction. Doesn't properly cover material. Don't take him!

Learned very little in this class. Never gives any feedback on grading. Almost impossible to get an 'A' unless you can produce work that looks like it just rolled off the printing press. Its like he doesn't want to be bothered to actually teach. Tells you what will be on the quizzes, but never slows down long enough to answer questions. Horrible.

he may not teach well in my class last sem, but i enjoyed working on some of the inking assignments he gave out. holland's a nice guy to talk to, but his grading is so very strict that even a teeny little pencil mark on an illustration board will still mark off a couple points in the assignment! don't expect to take him cuz he is that way.

I felt very uncomfortable in this class, and I hate nothing more then when a professor makes you feel like a complete retard. Isn't that why we are in school? To learn and not be made to feel stupid? I have to say this is the worst teacher I encountered while attending CSUF after graduating with a degree in Graphic Design. He is unprofessional, leaves constantly, does not explain anything in terms of expectations for assignments, and you walk away learning absolutely nothing because his class paves no way for improvement & learning as designers

Holland is super nice and you can easly talk to him. BUT he grades terrible. You have to be an expert at design to pass his Typography B. Do not take him unless you understand the way Holland thinks about "what is" good "art" & "design".
