Dr. Eisen's cell biology class is definitely not like most bio classes. Take it if you're more interested in learning skills than memorizing.

Granted, I did take his Bioethics seminar which wasn't representative of his usual teaching style. If you want to learn a lot and spend time with an amazing professor, definitely take his class.

A great professor. He warns you at the beginning of the semester that his class is not the typical format; if you don't like the sound of that, don't take this class. However, if you're interested in getting into research, this is the place to be.

Eisen is the best professor I've had at Emory. Really helps you understand the concepts behind biology. His classes are all about application. Be ready to work and think.

Went to his office hours quite a bit to chat, thought we were on good terms. I thought I had an A based on good midterm/presentation, then ended up with a B after the final. After that, he's refused to replied to any emails and I have been unable to find him on campus to talk to. I feel plain out disrespected.

The premise of the course is group based learning and teaching in the form of 'catalyst talks'. The midterm and final are based on info from the catalyst talks. It is overwhelming and will often make you feel lost. Amazing professor for those that are motivated and confident in basic biological knowledge. Don't fall behind on info from the talks!

Best teacher I've ever had. Brilliant, engaging, understanding, helpful. Provides a really interesting perspective on things, challenges you to question your assumptions, and pushes you to go further in your thinking. Any class he teaches is amazing!!

Eisen has an unusual way of teaching cell bio. Class is a series of student led presentations regarding random, interesting bio research articles. He's a great professor though; someone I'd have a beer with.

Eisen is a great professor who really tries to make the information interesting for his students. Tests can be difficult if you don't read/don't pay attention (like with any other professor), but if you come to class willing to learn, you'll have a great experience. I definitely recommend him!

Extremely great class and a brilliant professor. The way the course is taught is fun and interesting, it encourages everyone to think and understand everything being learned. Definitely not your average cell biology class, it is more interesting because real life situations are studied. Only take it if you know biology and are imaginative!

brilliant guy, can be very interesting, great for one on one talks, sometimes vague when it comes to mechanisms because he dislikes linear thinking

He's great in terms of encouraging you to think critically, but not so good in terms of clarifying difficult concepts and reaction pathways. The TA is more accessible than he is. He's kind of grouchy.

I know a lot of people like this class, but they are very smart. For someone who is not so great at abstract thinking then this is not the class for you. He places no parameters on things which I find unclear and not helpful.
