He is insecure and condescending. I have met theory profs with many more credentials AND personality. But most of all, he does not understand the collaborative setting of a University. Shame on you! There's a reason why BU Music grads have gone on to Grad School well-prepared in music theory - a big part of that reason as been Dr. Bower. Sure he's tough - welcome to University, kids. He is a terrible professor. He does not teach what he puts on tests. He is an ignorant, selfish and a huge jerk. He laughs at you if you have a question and does not help out. Who the hek gets a tutor to help kids..he should teach it....too lazy! I would not recommend him at all.

Arthur Bower is one of the worst teachers I have had in my life. He is condescending, arrogant, unyielding, cruel and likes to see students fail. Many great musicians have left BU school of music because of him. Watch him choke in performance!
