it's the worst teacher and crazy about grammar although it has checked in the writing center, very very low mark and the highest grade is b+, switch him before you choose your crouse.

Very unclear on what he wants. Says that he's not expecting an amazing paper but then marks extremely hard. It is also unfair that you have to pay $10 to join the Classics society in order to get the lecture notes, every student should have access to the notes if they took the class. I will never take another class from him again.

Having taken two semesters of Latin with Arthur electively I must say that while he makes you work for it he's one of the better teachers at the university. You 'need' to do the vocab readings, and you 'need' to pay attention to the lectures, because he expects a lot of his students, but if you do he'll gladly go the extra mile to help.

His class is graded solely on one end of term paper (or a project, your choice) and a final that is nearly 200 multiple choice. If this scares you, do not take this class. Doing the readings weekly is a must. Would not take a class from him again. Zero visuals , making it difficult for a visual learner like myself to retain any of what he taught.

He is a super hard maker! I am in my fourth year and I`ve NEVER had such a hard marker before. He`s really inconsistent about what he wants for your essays (I went to go see him 3 times and he got me to change my essay every time). He rambles and doesn`t give clear notes. Change tutorials, there are better profs! He will tank your GPA!

Below average prof. He marks really hard and only gives an assignment and an exam all year. For the assignment do a project and not an essay -- he is the stickiest prof I've ever had for grammar.

Very compelling to listen to and makes history very appealing. However, his way of lecturing is more like reviewing things that we should know even though it's completely new to the class. I HIGHLY recommend to join the Classics Society for his notes. Best 5$ you will ever spend. Very good professor and awesome to listen to.

Did not enjoy him as a tutorial leader at all! His idea of an A+ is a B+ which he RARELY gives out. I strongly suggest switching tutorials before you're as dissapointed as my entire class was. Exam review is completely in your hands!

Such a hard teacher. Very picky and VERY hard to understand what he wants, he does not care. He definitely picks favorites and if you're athiest than you're probably good. He just seems like he hates his job. VERY hard to get ahold of, doesn't respond to emails. Hated this prof.

Arthur James is Chuck Norris. I don't know how else to communicate the utter awesomeness of this man in one sentence. He made me love Latin. Probably 85% of my best first year memories are of his class, from the Latin ice cream cake, to random Disney singalongs. Although we never were successful in making him hold class in the cafeteria...

As a 4th year student, I found these 1st year lectures more difficult to follow than any upper level course I have ever taken. (hardly any overheads or structure) Thank god I watched HBO's Rome or else I don't think I would have passed. Requirements for the term paper were vague at best and it took way to long to get any marks back.

I took the Romans from him. Overall he is good, he tells you many of the exam questions. Unclear on many details regarding essays and does not always give good comments. Not a very hard marker but you needed 5-10% higher than normal to get a mark. (85-90 to get an A- rather than 80-85 etc..) and its similar for other letter grades.
