Comment:
Readings are available online. Lectures are posted online which is probably the most useful. In class discussion is very confusing, not direct at all. TA doesn't help much. Be prepared to ask plenty of questions to clarify meet specific, unnoted requirements which are highly important as, specific frameworks are being looked for in assignments.

If I could take this class all over again I would. The teaching style of the class is fantastic, Horowitz basically sets up a large class discussion where everyone has an equal chance to express views and opinions. The TAs are fantastic and use the tutorials to clarify anything from the lecture. It is one of the best POLS courses.

Professor Horowitz is polite but distant; however, he has adopted the most amazing method for teaching dense, foundational political theory texts - he forced us to question our assumptions and participate in class. I was taking another political theory course at the same time, and Horowitz's method blew it out of the water! Awesome!

Very laid back style, really enjoys discussion and his lecture notes are amazing. You could skip the lecture and just read but why, he is a funny guy and keeps you interested. Always up to advise on supplimental readings.

Extremely brilliant professor. His lectures are useless, however, his online notes are a blessing. Horowitz will teach you important political theory, guaranteed. Lots of readings, however I didn't do many of them aside from a selected few. Know the themes, pay attention, do your assignments, you will be fine. Would def take another class with him.

The only thing i don't like about him is that he posts the lectures online..so we read them before class and then class is just a "discussion". i find that coming to class is pointless.. otherwise, he's a very knowledgeable prof. the readings are really hard though. and i think he wishes that he could chill with Plato and Socrates

Horowitz is one of the most brilliant man in the entire political science department. Though the course is extremely fast-paced, it is a very enjoyable experience. His choice of TAs are also very suitable for the course on their own rights. Horowitz is definitely a must for students interested in political-philosophy.

Great professor! Anyone who's taken 2900 and has negative things to say doesn't belong in a political classics class. One of the most crystal clear speakers I've ever seen. Knows his stuff, has great online notes, TA's are golden (Paul Mazzocchi and Stefanos especially. I wanted Newman originally but would *so* take another of Asher's classes.

Lectures are boring waste of time. the notes do all the teaching out of class. He lets the students (the few who volunteer) guess the whole class about whats being written and relies too heavily on TAs to do the teaching. Anyone without a philosophy class under their belt would be a fish out of water in this class (if they have a****ty TA) too bad

Professor Horowitz, is an amazing prof. Really easy to understand, and his online notes are extremely helpful. You can literally not show up to class and read the notes and know everything that is going on. And my TA was amazing, she gave plenty of opportunities for me to catch up and very lenient and understanding. Pray you have Asher for prof.

The course is excellent, but the 'lectures' are wanting. While he does try to engage all students, the lectures tend to degenerate into semi-private conversations between a handful of students, with the rest sitting as spectators. However, the on-line lectures make up for this, to a degree.

He has a very open lecture and treats it more like a press conference and he's the philosopher king at the front. The truth is, you should attend for the last five minutes of class, when he gives a one line summary of what you should know. The other 40 minutes should be spent listening to music, or catching up in other classes.
