Prof. Aklujkar is a true expert in Sanskrit and Indian philosophy. One of the best Sanskrit teachers I have ever met! His Advanced Philosophical Sanskrit class was a real treat for me.

He is a subtly humourous and down to earth philosopher, although, it often seems (and he often admits) he is more a language teacher. Nevertheless, brilliant man who always chooses the most precise words and is most pleasant teacher

In response to the previous comment, yes, 'Indian philosophy does not mandate one world view,' but the point is that his lectures were unclear and he did not provide a context, in which to analyze the pure philosophical aspects of ancient texts cited. This is what made his course ungrounded and hard to get anything from

One of my classmates' 'glowing praise' of him was "I didn't understand anything at all but if you support what you say-"(dissolved into giggles). This class made me miserable. Maybe if you are familiar with problems in analytic philosophy or think like my classmate you will gain from it. Mind the culture gap in speaking with him.

AWFUL PROF! Unhelpful and sets this crazy level of perfection that no one can reach! He made me lose all interest in the subject matter...to the point where my room-mates had to literally force me to go to class. I would not take another class with this prof if my life depended on it.

don't take this class if you want a focussed and grounded study in indian philosophy. This guy's lectures sound like sermons, and he seems to have the arrogance of a preacher...although he says he encourages indpendent thought, if you object to the views presented, he is denfensive and unkind.

I got an A and i didnt think it was too tough, he teaches terms but he expects an understanding of the concepts in work you give him, friendly guy, good class. He probably stresses the terms becuase he is primarily a sanskrit translator

A wonderful professor who accomodates probing curiosity not only during lectures but in written work as well. The man's erudition is astounding and he provides clear and reasonable answers to complex issues while being sensitive to their subjectivity. Good luck trying to stump him.

I don't agree with the earlier review. Talk to him beyond the scope of the class and then judge for yourselves. Indian philosophy does not mandate one world view. Yes, he tends to require a higher level of perfection, don't take his class for an easy A

Not sure he really knows the spirit of Indian philosophy - only its strict textual interpretation. Unable to relate to its rich metaphorical wonders. Not recommended.
