Comment:
Everything in this course weaves together, so if you haven't fully grasped older material then you're screwed for the later stuff. Iyer himself has a good mind for the material and his work will make sense as long as you keep up. He struggles to properly convey some of the more abstract concepts, which can be a real stumbling block

You think you have an understanding of the concepts while doing the homework and studying and then he drops of a cluster of inconsistent problems using completely different methods in which he did not explain or connect thoroughly. 50% chance youll fail. Too smart for his own good, assumes you already know so doesnt fully explain.

DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSE. TAKE IT OVER THE SUMMER. Heed my warning; apparently there was an 60% withdraw rate from previous semesters and then most of the remaining 40% failed the course. I believe I only passed because of the curve, but it is very VERY hard to keep a good grade in this course. He does not explain concepts well at all. AVOID HIM

If you end up with him, I'd advise studying the course textbook in addition to your notes since his lecture notes can be confusing sometimes. He doesn't post notes online. He provides homework that prepares you well for quizzes. He often expects you check his work for him as he's working through a textbook example during lecture. Hw is not graded.

I really loved this course and Professor Iyer's teaching was really on point - I think many students often have difficulties because they haven't taken the time to prepare for lectures and/or hate pop quizzes. Dr. Iyer is truly a phenomenal professor - he is extremely accessible outside lecture and really cares about his students' learning.

Please avoid at all costs if possible, his lectures rarely helped. Uses a variety of methods without consistency to solve problems, and I feel that he is under the impression the class will understand every single method. Did not miss a single class, yet would have had the same results if I didn't go to any of them.

Dr. Iyer is very staright forward and does not know how to connect with his students. He expects us to already know what is going on and makes the assumption we understand everything he talks about. He makes many mistakes when he is doing equations. Overall avoid if you can seriously.

From my experience taking his class, he is very disorganized and his methods to solve a problem vary every time. There is no consistency, this is an extremely difficult course and his teaching makes understanding the class so much harder. His lectures do not help much, so get the textbook and do problems on your own. Just look at his recommend hw.

This is a well-organized class, and Dr. Iyer is great at explaining the material. His exams are pretty straightforward, and people complaining about this course are complaining really about the subject matter and not the professor.

Hard as heck. Must spend more than 5 hours on each lecture to understand the work. The tests are ridiculous, and when you go to his office hours, he has nasty attitude. Would give him credit for being smart, but not very convincing. Textbook didn't help much, google was better. Had to do multiple examples multiple times to understand it. NO curves.

You are going to have a bad time if you cant pick up material quickly on your own. You most likely won't gain much from his lectures. Good luck.

Does examples he then messes up. Tests are always way left field. Doesn't seem to care about his students. I have had him for 2 classes EGRE 254 and EGRE 206, both which he was not helpful.

Smart guy, but bad teacher. Makes easy subjects hard, by simply making mistakes on his resources or when solving problems. Most people perform better with him by supplementing the lectures with actually reading the book and working out your own problems instead of following with his. Chances are if you follow along, you'll get confused.

this was a hard class and the textbook didn't help but u had to make do with what you had b/c the things said in class were pointless. very unorganized and test were very predictable. something were worded unnecessarily difficult which could cause u to miss a question u would've understood how to do otherwise

He is a good teacher, however the class is difficult conceptually. This class requires hard work and a lot of study. Class attendance is mandatory if you want to pass the class. Overall the professor is excellent and he knows what he is doing, but in order to do well in the class it needs your determination, hard work and a lot of outside help.
