Be prepared to actually work!!! 146 is already a difficult course, but he really makes these difficult to understand topics easier by making them relevant. He takes points off for things that seem silly, but he is preparing students for the medical field and you will thank him for it later! Would definitely take his class again as he makes it fun!!

Duwe is a professional, and treats his students as professionals. If you are looking to pursue the sciences as a career, he is a great professor to take, as he will prepare you for the realities of the scientific community. His lectures are clear and he tells students what to expect on the exams. Loves to answer questions. Great professor.

Hard class. Is ruthless when it comes to grading. Will mark you down for everything wrong, including spelling. He's a nice guy to talk and converse with, but sometimes he's a bit harsh as a teacher. Overall, if you take this class, be PREPARED to live Microbiology for the semester.

Well, let me put it this way. If you want to be challenged for an A &feel mentally challenged by your professor. Go forth & take this class. I've never been so discouraged by a prof. I appreciate the fact that he tries to be hard on his students because its a professional course. But, being in a summer course, I expect as much clarity as possible.

Attend lab & lecture. Write down everything he writes. Study with the power point in front of you. Copy your notes on possible essay questions until you can write them nearly verbatim. Profit. He's very helpful if you are clearly making an effort, but if you are always late, talk when he talks etc., don't expect much. Give it to get it.

This is a very fair teacher. If most students miss a question, he evaluates it to see if it was a good one. The class is not easy because it shouldn't be. It is a science, but you only need 85% to get an A. Just study like a college student, be sure to go to class, and take notes. I used the previous edition of the text for $11 and it was fine.

I imagine he is very fun to go have a beer with. He is laid back, has a great sence of humor. Knows his stuff very well. Makes tests very hard, but gives an A for 85% and above, which isnt that bad. his lectures are very interesting, and I honestly learned a lot. Studied about 3-4 hrs prior to each test, got an A

attendance to lab mandatory, hard grader on essay questions for tests. he thinks hes an english teacher marks u on everything. if u have the idea on the essay question or 90% of the answer he'll only give u 1 pt out of 20pts unless ur his fav. impossible to class. 14 ppl dropped this semester. no hw no labs only quiz, exams and final.

I am about to take the final. He is a rough teacher. I mean, his lectures are clear, but his tests are extremely difficult. Our class average is like 63%. Really study hard for this class if you want to do well. Didn't use my textbook once.

he is a nice person most of the times but when he gets moody and upset he takes it out on the students and how he grades. a ton of stuff is crammed into the end of the semester. be very detailed on essay questions. come to lecture and lab, its helpful. he can be helpful at times. this micro is easier than the one at LMC

I prefer Duwe compared to other professors at DVC that teach Microbiology. He's tests are easy and based exactly on what the lectures are. You don't even have to study the texbook to pass his class. sure it'll help but the lectures are really helpfull too.

Not an easy class.Tests are based on lecture. Use the book for clarification. Most students record lectures. 85-100% is an A. After each test, he'll offer 1 to 1 meeting to go over the tests. Slackers unwilling to study shouldn't take this class and take up seats for serious students. Only 5 people with A's and 2 more tests to go.

Warning!DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I don't know what's up with the previous ratings I believe he returned from retirement and just doesn't care anymore. Grading is unfair. It is like he looks for ways to take points away rather than giving. I literally did better teaching myself. Good luck, I got an A/B in A&P and am struggling to stay in the C range.

It's hard. A lot of students carried a recorder because of amount of materials cannot be noted. The textbook is incomprehensive, so you have to be in the class to get any clue of what is going on. You will learn a lot even if your grade is "C". In this class, "C" is worth more than other 146 classes, or equivalent of "A+" in BIOSC 119.

Okay-Here is the download. I hated him the entire semester- Everyday going into class was a drag. I met with him once or twice. I managed to get an "A", but here is the kicker- I am in nursing school and I remember his lecture notes. I am a better student and learner because of him. I think back-heart palpitations before his tests- it was worth it.

Dr. Duwe IS THE BEST teacher at DVC. Micro is pretty hard, but his lectures are crystal clear. I used the book twice.. I just studied my notes from in class.. and I got an A! I definitely recommend is class. Oh, and 85% is an A!
