If you didn't take BIO in high school, you will not pass. She assumes you have all taken her course 50 times and know the material. Test comes from the textbook and not the slides, which she avoids telling you. Tests are 52 questions in 50 minutes. She also tests you "confidence" and strategically picks the answer location in hopes to confuse you..

Great personality and makes the lectures interesting. Very difficult to keep up though so lots of extra time to catch up on notes is needed. Labs are awesome though!!!

Barb seems uses sarcasm a lot in class, but shes really nice if you talk to her in person. If you have a question about the content or anything, talk to her in person, and she might give you hints too about the tests. You definitely need to write down everything she says in class. This goes for her intro bio and genetics classes.

Comment:

She is HILARIOUS, but don't be fooled by her cutesy words or use of "K.N.O.W.". Barb expects a LOT from first year students so if you are not willing to put your all into the course, you will not pass. In lecture, write EVERYTHING she says, because it will all be on the final. She's tough but effective- the smartest prof I've had!

Such a wonderful prof. Her explanations are great, but you better show up, because she says things in class that don't get posted online and are important for tests. Her tests are quite difficult, but if you study hard (and she provides lots of resources and support for that) you can do well. The lab component is easier! Loved her class!!

Barb came across as quite strict in her introductory lecture and syllabus but turned out to be quite approachable, understanding and accommodating. Probably eighty percent of the test material comes directly from the textbook, and it would be quite easy to get a good grade with relatively little effort.

Everybody loves this prof but I'm not a fan. She's too much to handle, she goes through things so fast and you can't catch a word she says sometimes. Everything she teaches is memorization, maybe it's just not my style of learning. I didn't find her very helpful when approached. She tries too hard to be funny.

She is by far the best teacher at UNBSJ she genuinely wants people in her class to do well and is so enthusiastic she makes learning biology so easy. Her classes are fun and full of information you won't find in the text. Attendance may not be mandatory but if you want to pass at all be prepared to go to every class and take a lot of notes.

Must attend class to get notes. She makes reference to the book but you must know her examples for the test. She covers things in class that are not in the book or mentioned in the slides. Very enthusiastic prof. I don't like molecular biology but I most certainly have never been bored in her class. Makes jokes. Approachable.

The best prof at UNBSJ. She is very approachable and shows much enthusiasm in her class. It was my favorite class to take. Would definitely recommend taking her class.
