Barbara Black is the most incredible professor I've ever had. She expects a lot from students, but she really respects hard work. Go to her office hours - she can be an amazing mentor. She is also one of the most intelligent people I've met - she really knows what she is talking about.

Barbara knows her stuff sure - but she definitely likes to hear her own voice and loves to name drop. She has very high expectations, but you do learn a lot from her. I would not recommend her to any freshman taking her intro seminar. The workload was a little over the top and she didn't make students feel quite welcome to Skidmore...

I was so disappointed by this highly rated professor. Only take a class with her if you like high school-style quizzes on menial information. She prioritizes your memorization skills over your actual writing/analyzing ability, and the readings are ATROCIOUSLY long. Black seems far more interested in hearing her own voice than her students' ideas.

I learned so much from Professor Black. She gives a lot of feedback on papers and encourages everyone to offer an opinion during discussions. She likes to have the last word and isn't afraid to call you out if you're slacking. If you work hard you'll earn her respect and get a lot out of the class. Loved her, loved her class!

Black is an interesting professor; encourages discussion, expects a lot. Be warned, she ALWAYS has the last word (end talking points during the last 10 minutes of class (hint: write feverishly). That being said, she is extremely helpful and pretty pleasant. Office hours are a must. She gives great feedback. If she likes you, she's got your back.

I've taken several classes with B. Black and I just never stop loving her classes. Her teaching style is awesome, she's ridiculously nice, and she's just about the most helpful person I've met. Definitely take a class with this woman! Plus, she has incredible fashion sense

Professor Black is outstanding. she is the teacher who gave me hope about Skidmore. she is incredibly smart, nice, and well-spoken. she does not like lateness or when people get up to go to the bathroom, but she does allow 2 unexplained and excused absences. you must take her if you can!

She expects a lot from you, so if you want to just slide by under the radar, skip her classes. Though she expects a lot, you will get a lot out of her classes. She is very passionate about her subject and is good at moderating student discussions, all things which make her classes very engaging.
