I'm a senior and this is THE BEST CLASS I've taken in all 4 years. Very insightful! Professor McCarthy knows alot about the subject and his tests/papers/grading are fair. Reading the textbook is not imperative for assigments, but it does help! You can also read his books online for further clarity. I never missed a class, I was hooked!!!!!

Loved this class! One of the most interesting and straight-forward professors at the university. He is really hard to get a hold of outside of class so you need to talk to him before or after class if you have a question. LOVED MCCARTHY and his class!! Would take all of his classes if I could.

Too bad this class is ALL statistics that the professors talks about the entire class, otherwise it would have been interesting. The prof is not engaging and looks like he's bored in class. Not very helpful, tests are hard, reading is heavy, grading system is totally weird and has real potential to bring your total score down.

Comment:

Once you get used to his lecture style, which can be vague and unclear, he is really a very insightful professor who has some interesting ideas. Tests are tough, but he gives you all the questions ahead of time so you can do well if you apply yourself. I enjoyed the class overall.

I loved this class...I mean, who isn't going to be interested in human sexual behavior? Such interesting material and he knows so much. He's really friendly and brings in a lot of guest speakers. Do the study papers, they boost your grade.

Had him for two semesters- can't stand the man. Teaches that the best way to achieve happiness is to get married and have a baby- he's really on the wrong campus to be preaching that stuff. Lots of fluff, haven't learned anything substantive. Interesting material, though

McCarthy is an interesting character. As an undergrad I did everything in my power to suck up to him. I took 3 classes with him I even read his books and reviewed them for the Book review. I always tried to stay after class (the man doesnt have office hours!!) AND STILL he NEVER remembered my name. shame on him.if you're looking for a personal connection forget about it.Hes def interesting though his lectures feel like he's given them a 100 times and is bored. its easy to get an A bc u can do the extra assm

This class was a complete waste of time. McCarthy has you read his OWN book that isn't even published yet, and he just gives his OWN opinions without anything to back it up, and all you do it spew it back to his TA on the exam. He just comes once a week to hear himself talk. I learned nothing.

The class was really interesting, even if some of it was just fluff. He gives you all the potential exam questions in the syllabus and on exams he will give you 6 of them and you choose 4, so you don't need to know too much. 3 papers (1 is optional) and doesnt take attendance, pretty easy class.
