Barry Smith and Theatre of Crossing Cultures changed my life. It was wrong of the University to dismiss the course which had fully loaded classes & TAs for the fall. One of the best college classes I've ever taken. You aren't memorizing someone else's ideas like other classes. This class will change your life and way or thinking. It seems easy but you need to be "PRESENT"& put in thought, attention and work.

Barry is the best teacher ever! This is not the easiest class-but you do get what you put into it. If you have an open mind, this class can literally transform your life. i don't know what my final grade is, but I've never cared less. the experience that I gained from this course will last me a lifetime.no grade could ever do that.highly recommend

Incredible. Inspirational. Amazing. life-changing. awe-inspiring. Makes you want to LIVE YOUR LIFE. You understand people better. you have better relationships. you stop judging people. you gain a whole new perspective that will make you speechless. Barry preaches about listening to all views and 'crossing over,' yet refuses to allow his students to have a different way of doing things. although this class is interesting and can be fun, I wish I wouldn't have taken it. You either love this class or hate it. Work load isnt too bad.

Barry is a unique professor to say the least. I WOULD have labeled the class as "Easy" if it wasnt for the overload of hmwk.@ LEAST 1 article to read/annotate every week,2 whole books to read & annotate,a scrapbook of ur entire life & family history due @ end of semester,as well as 14pg paper SINGLE-SPACED. Great professor. Expectations are high, but they are achievable. You can learn a lot from this class, and it is very valuable. Barry will not accept mediocre work in terms of annotating and scoring assigned readings though. So, be ready to dedicate time and read all the handouts deeply. Wonderful professor and class.

AVOID!! Very artsy. Assigns tons of work. Makes you sit in a circle and pass around the "truth ball." Plays favorites. Cries in front of the class for attention. I got nothing out of this class. All he did was pick on a few students who disagreed with his world views and then tried to make the class feel guilty about his life. A pathetic man.

What a great teacher!!!!!!! I learned so much about the world, others, and myself through this class. His way of teaching is different from what everyone is use to but it works! He teaches you how to be open minded and to be able to really read not just words but people and our society. I highly recommend everyone to take his class.

He's a liar. He claims that his course is self evaluated but he ended up giving me a much lower grade than I gave myself. Maybe if he actually placed realistic expectations on students and gave meaningful assignments I would have done better.

I am a straight A student and it is very possible that I have failed Barry's class. The class doesn't have enough structure to be practical. He gives you almost nothing to work with (as far as directing tools/skills) and then expects a master piece. If you take Dir I with Barry I guarantee that YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PASS DIR II W/ NAOKO

I thought that I wanted to be a director before I took this class, but he changed my mind. He is crazy and is completely unclear in his expectations for the class. He does little to no preperation for every class, and sometimes we do nothing but toss balls around for an hour and a half!
