Comment:
Doesn't teach from a textbook and it's very hard to learn from his lectures, but he's SUCH a nice guy that I can't even drag him for terrible teaching. Gives a lot of work with a lot of grades, but as long as you do well on labs you should be fine. May not even teach this course again as we were his first class for the course number.

Honestly Professor Setzer was amazing. He would give you note cards to write down information to have on test days. He cares about his students and does not rush the learning process. A true hero.

Doesn't know how to explain things when people ask, can't finish his own thoughts, gets jumbled up super easily, quizzes almost everyday so you can't skip, does problems without explanation, and doesn't know how to tell you how he even did them. Most confusing professor I have ever had.

he gives us 10 minutes at the end of every class to do a pop quiz. his tests are nothing like the homework. we correct him. majority of the time when he's teaching class because he cannot teach problems on our level. he writes things on the board that you can't even read bc it looks like chicken scratch. unless math is easy for you, don't take him.

Can't teach on a basic level, doesn't make any sense, gets lost in his own thoughts, confusing and doesn't explain how he gets his answers, does everything in his head, random pop quizzes almost everyday and sometimes they don't relate to the current info taught.

I took Prof Setzer for MATH 1111. His lectures can be very very boring but he makes a very strong effort to ensure everyone understands that concepts before moving on. He is not afraid to take time out in order to make sure everyone is on the same page. Super friendly and cares about student success, just a little boring in class.

He's a really really great professor. If you are ever having trouble on a particular assignment or program he will help you in any way possible. As others have pointed out, he will give you pointers on how to improve your code. Tests were not easy, but they are open note and open book. DO NOT SKIP CLASS unless of course you're really good at coding

Wonderful class and professor. Unlike the prof for 2301, Dr. Setzer actually explains the concepts behind programming and makes it clear. He really needs to be the main prof of 2301 as well. All testsquizzes are open note, and he records everything so you can go back a listen if you miss anything. Very accessible prof who wants you to do well.

This Internet Programming course was great! Most of it was Python and I really enjoyed it. Learning quite a bit. Lectures were a bit dull but tests derived directly from lectures, no surprises. Major project do-able but requires time investment. Previous prog and Linux experience a plus for this course.

Lectures can get boring; it's an almost 3 hour class. Prof. Setzer is a great Professor; you really can't hate the guy because he genuinely cares about your success. He literally went 1 by 1 to everyone during labs to see where we were at - he will hold off labs if the entire class is struggling. He's the reason I will continue in my major.

He undid everything wrong my previous CS teacher brainwashed me with. He really knows what he is doing and is extremely kind when it comes to helping you with personal questions. He has been teaching at KSU for more than half the time it has been open and is a good grader, giving partial credit. He really wants you to do well in the class. TAKE HIM

This class was about exploring mathematical concepts using Java. There are no tests, just 7 homework assignments due every two weeks. Everything, including the lectures, is online so there is no actual class to attend. The assignments are straightforward but sometimes he takes off lots of points for little things. He allows resubmissions though.

I really enjoyed this class. The labs are wicked easy and the almost always coincide with what we learned that day in class. Every test is open note and you can even ask him questions about the problems. He always answered my questions about the assignments as well. Great prof! Great class!

He is a great teacher! Very helpful if you have any questions. Very knowledgeable on the subject. Lectures were a little dull but if you wanted to skip them and just come in for the lab you could. I would recommend him to anyone taking any CS classes.

If I could take every CS course with Prof. Setzer, I would in a heartbeat. The man -gets- teaching -- it's not about tripping your students up, it's about ensuring they learn. Prof. Setzer does just that -- he even delayed and then cancelled a test because he felt he hadn't adequately prepared us for it. Tests open-book/notes, GREAT guy.

His lectures are boring but he is extremely laid back, accessible, accommodating, and helpful. Tests are open notes and open book. Homework is easy but helps you learn. He assigned a big project in the beginning but pared it back so much that is was basically a glorified homework assignment. I would take every course with him if I could.

his guy lectures are all over the place. He constantly change back and forth between slides; so listen to his recordings. He is boring! The work is easy and test are open book; however, they are wordy and confusing. So open book test are not easy. The web page assignment was a wase of time, because he do not make clear on the instructions.

Amazing course by Dr. Setzer (Distributed Systems Development, Summer '09). Over 4 weeks, we covered months worth of material, but it was covered well. Loved the class and the topics-- was a refreshing change! I highly recommend Setzer as a professor.

Class is very boring and he turns the lights off which makes it worse: you almost fall asleep. Be careful if you like to skip classes because he gives pop quizzes that count for class participation. You do learn a lot with him though.
