Someone said earlier that Prof. Wren had "a little plan." He has no little plan other than getting weak minded kids to worship him. He has a little clique that bow down to him, and unless you're willing to do the same, he doesn't have the time of day for you. Simply being a good student who's interested in the material isnt enough for him.

If you look up the word charlatan in the dictionary, there is a picture of Prof. Wren. An awful teacher and an awful man as well. Rude, arrogant, and full of****. I got an A in his class, so this response is not motivated by any bitterness over his evaluation of me. He is a disgrace to Catholicism and to Zen Buddhism. Stay away from him!!!

I took all the Ben Wren classes I could, this was almost 20 years ago when I was at Loyola. He was a Jesuit priest back then. I took Zen I&II, Japanese History I&II, and Chinese History I&II. The guy was hard and if you didn't work, he ripped you up in a bad way. Interesting guy and good prof.

Ben Wren is definitely a character. Don't take this if you want an easy class. He makes you retain everything you learn. Daily quizzes add up to your final grade. Show up, study, add extra info to get bonus points on quizzes. You'll learn more in this course that in all previous courses cummulative.

You get out of Zen what you put into it. Ben Wren wants students to succeed, but they can only do so when they make an effort themselves -effortless effort that is. Zen is very personal and the class is half & half, you put in the time and Wren will give you something to enhance it.
