So in year 2003 there was a comment saying people fell asleep on his morning class. 15 years later people are still sleeping. Sorry but everything else about him and his class was wonderful.

Love every aspect of his class. Just hope the class discussion can be more efficient. To be fair it is not his fault.... too obvious so many people skipped the reading.

LOL the early class comments... Always accessible (living in his office) and extremely helpful. Open-minded, inspiring,... believe me he is the ideal of LAC professor. Change your way of thinking. Please do take his class at least once in F&M. Go to his office hour! Then you will either become a phi major or regret that you didnt.

So I took class with professor Helm again. I disagree with everyone who thought that he was not helpful or not reasonable on his grading. I dont think they ever read his syllabus. It is the most helpful guide for writing and reading philosophy papers in general. I improve so much in his class. Hope I had took his class earlier

Genuinely a a nice guy, but is difficult to follow and understand his explanations. Met with him on several occasions for clarification on what he is looking for on assignments or help with research, but again, he doesn't give a straight answer and is confusing. Avoid classes unless you genuinely have interest on the subject.

Comment:
Great professor. Grade can be hard but he is really trying to explain everything. Once understood his requirement (which is very reasonable to produce good paper and extremely helpful) it is not that hard if you really try. Live in his office and is always ready to answer questions, always helpful. And his lecture is inspiring and hilarious.

As a teacher, he has fluctuating standards and does not grade you in the same way every time. As a philosopher, he's work is chicken-soup for the heart and contributes very little to the true wellbeing of our race.

He tries to be helpful but his comments are confusing and not relevant. He is a nice person but expects too much from the students. Unfortunately unless you are one of his favorites you will not get above a B in his class.

I didn't feel like his comments or advice pertaining to papers was all that helpful, no matter how hard I tried to do well on them.

An amazing professor -- clear lectures, open to questions, takes time explaining new concepts, absolutely brilliant, and passionate about the material. You will have to work, but you can learn so much in his class.

I would always attend class, that was impotant otherwise you would not be able to understand the material. He was very helpful and always wanted to clarify but sometimes in clarification I would get more confused. He is a nice guy and overall a good prof.

Excellent person, very attentive, has really taken up the mission of being a liberal arts educator and philosopher to heart. Thoughtful, will take two seconds longer to answer your question than other profs would, but tells so much more. A bit dry/blase.
