Comment:
Tons of reading. Very boring lectures- he likes to hear himself talk. Possesses a massive amount of knowledge on a number of historical subjects. Gives almost no feedback on papers so the grades seem arbitrary. Definitely have him edit papers and show interest and he'll grade more favorably.

Prof Schuyler is a very difficult teacher. His lectures sometimes do not connect and often go very off topic. Only uses papers to grade. Unhelpful advice and corrections on papers. Never learned my name.

I absolutely love this professor. He is definitely willing to put the time into you if you are willing to do the same. If you do the readings and write good notes, you are bound to do well on the test. He knows everybody by name and is very knowledgeable of his study.

Professor Schuyler is a great teacher. Very willing to help his students and an extremely smart guy. He does tend to play favorites in terms of grading, but as long as you do your work and show you care, there should be no problem.

Agree that he plays favorites, grades according to those favorites, and vice versa. Overly emotional. He 'tries' to act overly interested, and deep-down wants a movie made of his teaching method in the likes of 'Mr. Holland Opus,' that Robin Williams private school movie, 'The Emperor's Club', et al....

I've taken 5 courses with DS and he's one of the best professors at F&M. I like how he lets you choose your own topic for a research paper instead of giving the whole class 1 topic. He definitely bends over backwards to help his students out. He's also one of the smartest people I've ever met.

Schuyler is very cool. He is very nice and makes you feel at home. He never gives pop quizes and all of his tests are essays. One warning once he gives you a grade at the beginning of the year it will be your grade for the entire semester.

Schuyler is the coolest. He is very relaxed in class so everyone feels comfortable at all times. He gives two tests a semester and one or two papers. He is a hard grader, but gives you lots of help.

Possibly the best professor on campus. Incredibly knowledgable and willing to help students learn. His expectations for this seminar are simple: do the work and help bring insights to the readings. Make sure you take a class with him!

Completely plays favorites and is not shy about letting you know. Obviously I was not a favorite. As an educator I learned what not to do by remember his classroom technique. I must admire his knowledge of material. "Harkening toward the past"
