Dr. Gettel is a very rude and unprofessional professor in my opinion. She pretty much yelled at students in class if they didn't ask questions, but cocked an attitude at the very few that did ask questions. There were 5 exams with 1 being optional, and she made you work for your grade. If you don't read your book, you won't pass.

I liked this professor to begin with, however when she contacted me in regards to a personal matter, it could have been handled more maturely. PSU has a very passive aggressive nature. I would have been fine with an appointment, email, or talk after class, but she chose to use a third-party administrator instead, which confused me as student.

Biology 141 is difficult material to learn as it is, let alone having a prof try to trick you with her exams. The exams were beyond difficult and I felt the questions she asked were unfair. It's in introductory course for a reason and she definitely fails to realize that while making her exams.

This is a tough class and Dr. Gettel has high expectations of her students. If you read your book, take good notes during class and study, you can pass her class. I would suggest that if you've been out of school for a period of time and/or haven't had BIO before, take the prep course. She may come off mean but is funny &cares about her students

I went in to her classes a little nervous but found she is a pleasant person who happens to teach a very difficult class. She answered any questions (although she did get a little short with some people who asked her things that were clearly outlined on the syllabus) and was willing to clarify information from previous lectures. Very good teacher.

I learned a lot but I had to study everyday for an hour or more and attend every tutoring session. As far as help goes she left her students handicapped. She also had a really bad habit of making her students feel stupid, which, for me, really put me down. If I didn't see the tutor for help I probably would not have understood most topics.

I had her for 141. She didn't like me. I would ask questions and she would look at me like I was stupid. She is not helpful at all and it is hard because the only thing she grades is exams (during fall and spring). Worst teacher

I had her for a class during the regular semester and I thought she was kind of mean, but I took BIO 141 as a summer class (I highly recommend doing this if you have to take this class) and she was totally different! She is a nice person and would help you with anything..just ask!
