I found Betty-Joan's class horrible, it is almost impossible to stay focused in her class. Also, she is unable to maintain control of a classroom and her style of teaching is just horrible. Its unfortunate that there arent many french profs in the program.

Very sweet teacher. Soft spoken, sit near the front if you have trouble hearing other profs. I find the class rather repetitive but she is very informative & my French has certainly improved. She is very understanding & well worth taking a class with her! If you get called on & say the wrong answer she is ALWAYS very nice about correcting you!!

Betty-Joan is, without a doubt, the best French teacher I've had in 15 years. There are lots of weekly assignments and quizzes (which can get very tiresome) but she is a reasonable marker and gives you the opportunity to do compositions twice.

Absolutely fabulous prof! I had her for several classes; she does expect you to pay attention, but she's a fair marker and very kind. By far the best teacher i've ever had; she really made me interested in french. I've since transferred to a different school, and really miss having such a competent teacher in the department. Take her classes !

Betty-Joan is a great professor! Though she is a little unclear as to the assignments and her expectations, asking her to clarify before the papers are due helps immensely. She is wonderfully helpful and is always willing to make time for students. I would take her class again if I could!!

Nice person, but not a good teacher! I love French and when I took her class it turned me off of French for over a year. I prefer Nola or Alan, they are both amazing profs that you will learn a lot from and have inspired me to continue with French. French 101 with Betty was probably the worst French course I've ever taken.

Take her course ONLY if you gonna rewiev French. She is looking charming, foolish but marks VERY STRICT!Lectures mostly about life in France,but dont teach French. Criterias of marking, recomendations are not clear. Till the end she will insist you doign great even if u not speakign at all.Gives you an evaluation but process of teaching useless.

Well I got an A in French because it comes natural to me, but even though I did good in her class, Betty is a bit anal. She is a pleasant person, but not a very good teacher. Avoid if u don't know much french. However if u already know enough French, u will do great in her class.

Betty-Traverse's French is impeccable, esp. for an Anglophone. Her class is not hard, but not easy. Most students improved through out the class. Expecations were very clear. I found some of her grammar explanations unclear. She can be intimidating, but show interst in learning French, and she will be more inclined to help you.

Madame Traverse is a very good professor. She is very clear, covers everything in class. Has a couple of assignments that help with practice. Her exams only cover what she goes over. She is always willing to help, and makes learning French fun. I'll definitely take her again.

Don't let her cute disposition fool you. She's nice if you speak fluent french, but I went to her for help and she pretty much just told me to work harder. I felt stupid every time I asked her a question. I did very well in Alan Cameron's classes (he's great!), but I dropped out of hers half way through.

I left the rating before this one. she no longer stares at you; if you don't know the answer you can say "je passe" & she'll go on to someone else. the Lit class was way more interesting than her comp classes. she's still sometimes unclear on what she wants; frequent tests - comp tests are terrible & very unclear! but i must say she's improved!
