Brett is an amazing teacher and person. He is extremely understanding and while sometimes the work load was a little overwhelming, it was overall a relaxing class. I learned so much from this class and I can't say enough about what a great person he is.

Brett is probably my favorite teacher I have ever had. He's so clumsy and hilarious, he knows what he is talking about, and he is super helpful. He is extremely kind and considerate, and gives great feedback. He is reasonable about assignment due dates, which was really nice. I loved Brett, and I hope i can take one of his classes again!

Easily one of the best professors I've had at GVSU. Brett is genuine, knowledgable, and extremely caring. Grades fairly, gives helpful feedback, and suggests artists to research based on your specific style/interests. He is also hilarious.

This prof does not lecture on drawing half as much as he lectures on his political viewpoint. The class is fairly easy as he doesn't like a grading system and usually gives high points regardless of the work, but other than the mandatory practice of holding a pencil and drawing still-lives it is overall unhelpful in improving drawing skill.

He is a very radical thinker and will shove his ideas down your throat. He also grades on if he likes your work or not. That's the frustrating part. It's not how good you follow with the guidelines, it's if he actually likes what you do.

He is extremley considerate and interested in each students individal artistic development. He dosen't use harsh extremties to get people to work. As far as drawing goes he tries a variation of techniques so everyone learns.My only beef is that I do not agree with his political opinions but this did not affect my grade or the quality of the class

Extremely opinionated, we disagreed on many important things, but he's very set in his own views and won't consider/validate differing opinions. He tends to shove his views down your throat. I was very frustrated with him throughout the year. On the plus side, he can help you to think of making art in new ways and is very encouraging.

I had Mr. Colley as a professor in Plymouth State University and he was amazing. He only stayed for...one year i think as the town was too small and not a lot going on arts wise as far as a place to LIVE went. We were sad to see him go. I fell in love with printmaking in his Intaglio class!!!

He is one of the best professors I have ever had! He is full of information and incredibly inspiring! Not on will you improve your skills and artwork, you will be a better person because of his teachings! Brett changed the way I make art and expanded the way I treat social responsibility. You HAVE to take as many classes with him as possible.

AMAZING!!! Incredibly nice and helpful. he helps you with your drawing any time you need it, and his "found" objects just make the class interesting and more friendly. his critiques are firm, but true. he says what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. all around nice guy....TAKE HIM IF YOU HAVE THE CHANCE!!

He's an amazingly nice person who is always willing to help if you've got a problem or are having trouble learning a technique. He doesn't just hand out A's, you need to earn them. It can be a lot of hard work that will ultimately be worth it in the end, and you do learn what you need to know.
