Comment:

Brian is the best comp sci prof our department has. It is clear he has the most life experience out of every prof (started programming in the days of punch cards in Fortran, which were phased out in the early 70's!) He is insanely dedicated and enthusiastic as a prof, love his lectures, and all exams are open book. What more can we ask for?

Had him for both CMPT 101 and CMPT 103. Tests were hard and not straightforward, and he did not prepare you for the labs. I also had no prior CMPT science experience as well, and found him to be a difficult teacher.

Brian is a great lecturer. Easy to approach and very helpful when you need it. The course itself is very straight forward and midterms are open book. Great prof, good to have a geek teach a bunch of geeks!

CMPT 430 is in and of itself more on you than on the instructor. As it is an advanced course in the Game Stream. I would only recommend taking this class if you have a strong passion for the content as instructor help can only go so far when doing something that is new and unique.

His outline did not include the weight of assignment, and it is so confusing to students. I had a really bad group, and they've done much. Two of my members got fail in this class. He is a very tough marker, and he does not like read the long answers. I don't know whether he was a good teacher in the past, but it is for sure not a good teacher now.

If you enjoy chasing your professors around, you will love Brian. His assignments encompass zero instruction and zero direction so you if you expect any, you will be thoroughly disappointed. His exams are among the toughest there are but overall, he is a fair grader. He has his favourites so be prepared to wait in line for his help.

Loved this course. All tests were open book, but even if they weren't, the mid term would have been easy anyways. He's passionate about computing. Did all the hard questions in class and saved the easy ones for the exams. My one and only complaint is that I wish he would have done most of the coding on his laptop, and not on the board.

Fantastic teacher. Enthusiastic and profoundly knowledgeable about computing science. Pay attention. He leaves breadcrumbs for students to follow, that they might learn more about things he lacks the time to cover. I threw the most abstract and diverse questions at him, and he answered everything with a deep understanding.

The easiest marker on the planet. Open book midterms and final. All you have to do is have a couple sheets summarizing his notes and examples and the exams should be an easy A. Super nice guy. Loves video games. He's just a nerd through and through. On top of being super nice and an easy marker, he also actually knows his stuff.

Ive had Brian for 4 of my lectures and 2 labs, he does an excellent job of teaching everything. He also is willing to spend the time to help you get higher grades and to show you where you went wrong. As well, all of his test are open book and open computer!

He knows what he is teaching, and he does a good job of it. Tests are EASY and they are all open book (not the labs though, not his fault) so things are pretty hard to get wrong. BUT he has been missing a lot (6 lectures this semester) of class (yes, the prof) and it is a pain as there hasnt been a sub arranged. Good guy though! Funny too
