Dr. Buchanan's class was great. He is super relaxed and down to earth. Likewise, he's probably the most idea inclusive professor I've had as of yet. As long as it's realistic, he's open to lots of different interpretations of a piece. I would definitely recommend him.

I truly looked forward to going to class, not only because the material was interesting, but because Dr. Buchanan was engaging and kept class exciting. He is really down-to-earth and wants to see you do well. He does have quizzes throughout the semester to ensure you've done the readings, but if you keep up and participate, you will do well.

For someone that doesn't like English, I really enjoyed his class. His lectures were interesting but you must participate in the discussion for marks. His quizzes are easy as long as you do the readings. Make sure you write notes in class because it will come up on the final exam

I found Dave to be a great prof, despite his tough marking, but, he does provide some written feedback throughout your essay, so at least you know what he's looking for. His lectures are fun to attend, but you have to participate in discussion in some way or else you'll lose marks. Overall, Dave is really enjoyable and funny.

Pros: Dr. Buchanan's lectures were a pleasure to attend. Engages the class well, and makes for an interesting conversation. Very Flexible with regards to due dates/extensions Plenty of opportunities to achieve a participation grade Cons: Tough Marker Unrealistic expectations for final exam (paraphrase a poem- skill hardly touched on in class)

Dave is very passionate about what he teaches, and focuses his class around class participation. However his marking style is one that is undesirable (really hard). He is very critical and marks hard on his papers. Also, he doesn't provide any written feedback.

I really enjoyed Dave's class. Although he sometimes challenges students' comments, it isn't in a rude way and he is still very open to discussion. Provided a lot of good feedback and was helpful when needed. He takes a look at your work if you ask! Graded tough but there are lots of opportunities to raise your mark.

Pretty decent professor. You can tell he loves what he does and class is usually pretty interesting. You will absolutely need to read the novels he assigns because he gives quizzes every time you finish a book/section of a book. Very tough marker. I have an average of A in my papers because I'm an ENGL minor and I couldn't get anything over an 80

Very nice prof in general. Pop quizzes were easy if you did the readings and he looks for participation. Cares about attendance, but for the most part I found his class useless to go to. Gives clear criteria for papers.

Do the readings. They make the pop quizzes easy. He's extremely kind, and always willing to help. Though he is very clear about what he wants on papers, he is a tough marker. Class is very discussion-focused; some students really monopolized the discussion and he did not prevent this. Told us what to expect on the final and marked it fairly.

Dave is an amazing professor. He is so unbelievably nice and always willing to help. He is also very understanding. He does do random pop quizzes, however it ensures that you do the readings to keep your mark up (they're really easy if you do the readings). I would definitely recommend him.

You can tell he's really interested in the material he's teaching. The lectures are student focused and really keep the attention of the class, he's a tough but fair grader and he gives students many opportunities to succeed. (With reading quizzes and class participation etc) I would highly recommend taking a class with him, you'll learn a lot.

really did not enjoy this class at all. so much so that i'm writing a review on a prof and I have never done that before. He is an extremely hard marker the hardest I have ever come across! if you are not amazing on formatting your papers or simply just excellent at writing papers. his class is not for you.

Dave is nice guy but he is a really bad teacher. He tells pointless stories during his lectures and forces class discussions. He expects the students to know everything and teaches his class through these class discussions. It is not helpful at all. He is also a tough marker and his assignments are very ambiguous. definitely wont take again.

Super nice guy, always willing to help if you go to hi office hours! 6-7 reading quizzes but just boost your mark if you read the novels. Really kind would recommend and take again!!
