This is better to take later in your degree process as exams/papers need a lot of your own analysis and thought of CJS overall. Fantastic prof, great attitude, lots of hints about exams. Recommended, but I should warn you that there is a lot of reading involved. You can bs your way thru the class and still pass, but if u want an A you need to read.

Brain is an amazing prof! He is incredibly engaging, connects with students individually, and makes the material interesting. The midterm and final are written essays, but they are quite easy if you know how to critically examine the information.

classes always consist of presentations being given by classmates, this prof doesn't really teach. all you do is discuss the articles in class. can be boring, but this class is pretty slack. you don't even have to read all the required articles to get a good grade. just read a few to prep for the midterm and 17 paper and you will get a good grade

Brian is in the top five of Criminology's professors. He cares, he is clear, interested, and just plain awesome! He is 65 but still the kind of guy you could have a beer with. Classes are very organized, and they hold a graduate level of maturity. Take this class, and be happy.

Professor Burtch is a fine lecturer, but the class was somewhat useless and is not structured for an upper level class- agree with other comments that the material is stuff you would already know.

He's a friendly guy, a fair marker, has a pretty structured class. (But at the same time, was this ever a waste of a class.) He doesn't teach you anything you wouldn't already know.

Brian is fabulous. His powerpoint presentations are well prepared and organized and he has a natural flair with presentation. Lecture is interesting and Brian always brings in little bits of extras: novels, books, movies, clips, artworks... his classes are worth every penny!

He is an enthusiastic and clear teacher, and a brillant and highly intelligent person. The only problem is that he is extremely leftist, and it's almost impossible to express alternative points of view in his classes or tutorials.

He is a really interesting and informative teacher, but he has such a strong leftist bias. There are many people who feel intimidated to disagree with him.

He makes a lot of claims, but he provides very little evidence to back most of what he says. He has some extreme ideas and he doesn't let students who have other ideas have a voice.

A great person, and a wonderful speaker. I am a socialist, so I wholeheartedly agreed with all of his views, those who don't (see below) can pretty much piss off. Gives a voice to First Nations, women and others who have been and continue to be persecuted within the Capitalist system. Good texts.
