This man is a paragon of excellence. He is kind, yet keeps his class running in a sound manner. He is funny, yet not overly serious. And, above all, he is extremely intelligent, yet not intimidating. His calsses are treat for anyone wanting to see a master at work.

It is so nice to find such a good lecturer who doesn't end up throwing some sideways political philosophy at you. I couln't imagine a more perfect professor for American West history. It will be a sad day when UVIC replaces him with an angry, underqualified feminist with an ubabashed socialist bias. Calm, intelligent, encyplopedic knowledge.

Dippie is a unique man. Bit of a babbler, but ties everything together in the end. You get what you put into his classes re grades. His exams are unlike anything I have ever seen, but I worried about them more than I had to.

My favourite professor EVER. I nearly went on to do graduate work because I found him so inspiring. He always makes time for his students. His lectures are relevant, informative and fun. His brilliance is blinding.

incredibly easy seminar. the reading list looked daunting at first but you can get away with reading a fraction of it if you have comments to make. marked fairly easily on papers, no final. sure, most of his lectures were rambles and tangents, but they were interesting. he also handles the dim bulbs pretty well in discussions.

Most worthless class ever. He rambled the whole time, he had very little course content. We wasted about 4 months of the year long course doing worthless presnetations and him going to Vegas and golfing. Also made us buy books he had no intention of using. He thought we'd like some "summer reading." :(

Good prof. His tests are hard to do well on though. The questions are really broad and he doesn't give enough time. No final exam though and assignments are fair. Decent marker. I'd recommend him and the course.

Overall a good prof. Show up and you'll do fine. His tests are kind of unfair though. The questions are way too broad to answer well in the short amount of time given. I'd recommend the class.

great class, highly recommended. the reading list looks daunting but as long as you have something to say in discussion you don't have to do all of it. beware, you can't miss one class, huge participation marks. otherwise quite an easy and engrossing way to get an A, you get what you put into it.

Re: comment below: Spare me!! What kind of idiots are they letting into grad school these days?? Dr. Dippie is a gifted and compelling lecturer who is very generous and respectful to students. Anyone who has a chance to take a class with him should do so before he retires.

WORST professor ever!!! Instead of prepared lectures there were endless rambling incoherent monologues. Amazing that he has not been booted out on his sorry ass. Does the administration know about this scammer???? Do they care? Way past useful, time to put ol' paint out to pasture.

Entirely underwhelming. The class was virtually devoid of content, cancelled more often than not, and lacked structure of any discernible sort. I had heard a great deal of Dippie-hype, but the real thing didn't work at all.
