He is a nice person, but do not take this class unless you have taken calculus before or get a tutor. He is not a good teacher, does not explain well, class is just watching him do examples. Study guides are entirely different from exams, which are extremely difficult considering his teaching ability. If you cannot teach yourself you will fail.

He is a very nice guy, but if you have never taken Calc 1 this class is very challenging. He moves through the material very quickly and you do not get a lot of homework so your grade is basically four exams and the final. He does not drop the lowest grade and doesnt give good reviews for the exams.

Dr. Garman explains everything well, takes his time, and prepares you well for the exams. There are four exams plus the final, but he gives plenty of practice problems that are basically the same as the exam problems. If you do all the optional homework, you'll get an A.

I would not recommend him if you have never taking a Calculus 1 class . He went through the material as if everyone has seen it before. The test were not at all like the study guides this semester, so don't bank on that like I did. I'm stressing though if you have taken Calc before it will be easy, otherwise be ready to teach yourself Calc.

Dr. Garman is one of the best prof. I have had at UT. He explains each and every topic very nicely. If prepared properly, then one could easily score 90+ marks in all his tests.

His tests are exactly like the review sheets he gives. Study those and you will be sure to get an A. He tries to make the class light and fun by giving jokes throughout lecture. He is amazing. Always willing to help no matter what.

The best professor for mathematics... explains every topic very nicely... tests are a bit tough, but if proper attention is paid in the class, you can expect an A...

His class was very frustrating, here's why: No cheat sheet for exams, doesn't drop your lowest exam grade (other calc professors do both). FOUR exams and a FINAL. Not very structured, random quizzes. I wouldn't rate his conveying of the material very high at all, hard to follow sometimes, works too fast. I would not recommend him. Nice guy tho.

His class is super easy. He gives you homework assignments that are optional after every class, and turn in assignments about every other week. He gives you study guides that are exactly like the test and goes over them with you. Take notes and do the homework and you're golden!

Love this Professor! The key to his class is showing up and to study re-do the worksheets he gives His office hours are extremely helpful! He genuinly wants everyone to succede and because of him I actually grew to like math. Class requires work. But his podcasts are great he loves when people download them so do it! Survived calc because of him!

Goofy teacher that keeps class interesting with little jokes. Gives daily HW but it is not mandatory. Tests are pretty challenging but manageable.

I recommend Dr. Garman to everyone! He's a little goofy/nerdy but he's really cool. I tried Calc with Kadic-Galeb and had to drop, now I have an A b/c Garman makes everything pretty easy to understand. He gives hw but its not mandatory, only about 10 actual hand-in assignments. Gives study guides for tests! always offers help on hw too!

DR Garman is perfect. Even though I pulled a BC (def could have tried harder) he made calculus so easy to learn. He brings a slight corny humor that makes you smirk, walks the halls with an Ipod, and seems absently distracted by math problems in his head, he makes math easy. Had a D in algebra, C in precalc, and pulled 90's on his test. TAKE HIM

Dr. Garman is THE BEST! I got a D in MAT160 and failed out of precalc, but got through his class with an AB. It's not that he's easy, his tests require studying. But he makes everything just so easy to comprehend. Accompanied with a touch of corny humor, he WILL teach you how to do math. Avoid Kadec and Fowler!! I owe it all to Dr. Garman!

He assigns hw every night, and while it isn't mandatory, it's the key to passing his class. He has 10 mandatory assignments that must be handed in, they end up being the equivalent to a test grade. He's a fairly picky grader, but does give partial credit. Overall, he's a fantastic professor.

One of the best math prof's I've ever had. Everything just made sense when he explained it. A goofy kind of guy too, he'll throw in corny one-liners that you can't help but laugh at. He gives test reviews either print-outs or on pages of the text, tells you about upcoming quizes, and his HW and class are not mandatory.

This man created his own pod-cast and put it on iTunes so that we could learn derivitive formulas. He is easy-going and very helpful if you go to him one-on one. He kept the class interesting.

I had him for Linear Algebra. I got my lowest grade on a math test ever on his first test. I think he realized things needed to change after that, because everyone made improvements. I got a 100% on the final exam and an A in the class. He seemed to be preoccupied during his offic hours, not really helpful. He was helpful in class, however.
