Comment:
Tons of homework that gets changed constantly. Tests scheduled outside of class time (really inconvenient). Drops lowest test or lowest test becomes homework score if it bumps your grade up. Significant figures are huge to him, but he does not help you fix errors, just "bad sig figs" and lose lots of points.

Take Astronomy from any other professor or just dont take it. This class is unrealistically difficult and it shouldnt be. Not accessible outside of class. You go through the quarter blind. Not understanding. Does not care about or respect his students. Not sure how this guy still is a professor. He doesnt like being one and it shows. AVOID!

Avoid Houser at all costs. You will not know your grade until its posted at the end of the quarter. You can ask him but he will take weeks to reply and talk down to you. Dont try to ask him for help because again, he will talk down to you. You will have a lot of meaningless homework and the Planetarium Quiz which he recommends not even taking.

Homework questions come from in class lectures and cannot be answered by the book or Google. Make your answers for homework and quizzes as detailed as possible. Even if the question says to summarize, give lots of detail. He's super disorganized and jumps around the topics. Content is good, teaching is not.

Lectures are funny and entertaining. He really wants his students to succeed. Also, he brought cookies a couple times throughout the year so that's a plus.

Dr. Houser is a really great professor. He makes sure to go over everything in class and usually curves tests. If you do the homework you'll probably do fine on the tests. He works hard to make physics enjoyable and applicable to your life.

Dr. Houser is a god teacher, he knows what he's talking about. The lectures were interesting, if you're into space, but the man is extremely disorganized. Also the amount of work he gives out is a lot more than expected with homework. He does give out study guides that are helpful for the test, tells you what to expect. Cheers

Dr. Houser is a very good teacher. He's very smart and really knowa his stuff. I took him even though he was harder because I loved actually learning from him. His pictures of animals and aliens on the tests make them fun. Came into class in costume once even. He's a cool guy and pretty helpful outside of class although can be grumpy at times.

Due to his utter lack of organization and choosing grades for students then grading accordingly he is the worst professor I have ever taken. CWU told me not to transfer because of this joke. (I should have listened) 3.4+ in every class but 2.5's in his. The department is a joke and he is the ring leader.

Houser is the worst physics professor at Eastern. His labs always take three hours and if the lab isnt going to take three hours he will make it take three hours with rambling and explaining things that dont need to be explained. Ask for help and its like you're making him go out of his way.

For a 1 credit lab, there's a ridiculous amount of work, and I'm a bio major. Students in the other labs only spend 2 hours max on the labs. His labs? Expect to be there for 3 to 3.5 hours. Super condescending and treats you like you're dumb if you need help, which is often because the labs are extremely confusing. Choose another professor for lab.

Tough but fair. If your an engie or physics student you should take him, you will learn the most and its not an unreasonable workload compared to what you will take later. If your just taking lower level physics because its required probably avoid him. He is not too good with 1 on 1 help but his lectures are great. Tests aren't bad, homework rough.

Basically treats the class like everyone is a Physics major by making it extremely difficult. He is unapproachable to say the least. Ask a question and he will make you feel like an idiot for wasting his time. The dude is smart I'll give him that.

Comment:
The work involved for a ONE CREDIT course is ridiculous. I spend more time with lab than the actual physics lecture class. He's rude if you dont understand his explanation the firsttime and admitted that he takes points off depending on his mood (a good mood isnt often). Teachers who get to this point just plain need toretire

Knows physics, great on lecture. However when it comes to homework its insane. Expect to write about 11 pages every 2 days. Very often you will encounter a problem that you never seen in lecture. He does easy problems in class and leaves super, extra hard for homework. Whenever you come to his office he never wants to help you.

Dr. House is the reason I'm minoring in Physics. He made the class both entertaining and productive. And seriously, seeing his "Super Elephant" on the tests, or whatever other animal he decided to use, always made the tests more entertaining. Yes, you have to work hard. Houser expects a lot of his students, but he's a great guy and a great prof.

Very disorganized! Homework is incredibly hard...I received a 4.0 in calculus 2 and 3, i worked harder in Houser's class than in both my math classes and failed! Take another teacher! No matter what! Pretty sure most of these comments were made by Houser, no way he has this good of ratings!

HARD! Disorganized genius. His class requires a certain mathematical creativity or a lot of time to devote. He WILL spend extra time teaching you 1-1 if you need and he is very good at explaining it all. It's a pro-level course. Do the homework and you'll 4.0 the class though.

As the chairman of the Physics department, you can bet that he knows what he is talking about. He is pretty funny and very crazy, but in a good way. Attendance and good note taking is highly advised. Not every hw question is from the book. The tests are hard obly if you didn't do the hw. Probably one of my favorite professors and I hate physics.
