Comment:
Brian knows what he's talking about, but he's a mediocre professor. His lectures are disorganized (he gets off topic and his blackboard notes are nearly indecipherable) so taking your own notes is super difficult. He spends the semester falling behind his own deadlines and routinely shows up late to class with his presentations unfinished.

I love Walsh-- he's a true gem of a person. His teaching style is a bit hard to follow, but you'll get used to it. His priority is really his students. Latin is tough, but he truly wants everyone to get an A and love the language as much as he does, so he will work with you to get you there. An extremely funny and kind person!!

Brian is the best! I was so nervous about starting Latin, but Brian made it so accessible. He really cares about the student and their own personal learning process. He's accessible, kind, and so funny. I highly recommend him!

Probably my favorite teacher at UVM. I actually became friends with Prof. Walsh as we both share religious belief and really inspired me to love Latin. He is a great teacher and man, really wants you to understand Latin but also cares about his students. Be willing to put in some work, Latin wasn't easy for me because i had never any experience.

Professor Walsh is clearly a very intelligent man with a genuine interest in his field well beyond what is required of him as an academic. However, I felt that through the course he was often hard to follow at times, with notes on the board looking like a hodge podge of random words loosely strung together. He is not a harsh grader, though.

Walsh is the best professor ever. He understands that we have a ton of work to do and he's the one prof who will actually accommodate to our needs. There are few assignments, all are easy A's. For this class, exams were 80% of the grade. They were hard but you can prepare them ahead of time. There was a lot of assigned reading which I didn't do.

Walsh is amazing. He doesn't take attendence, but he notices when you're not in class. He loves his material and relates a lot of it back to what is going on in the modern world (i.e. the 2016 election). His projects are easy grade boosts. His exams are tough but its a great class.

Brian Walsh's eccentric teaching style was extremely helpful. He is incredibly knowledgeable and he makes the primary sources much easier to understand. I took Ancient Law with him and he definitely improved my skills at reading Ancient texts. His class was difficult, but he was always available for help. I could not recommend him more.

Such a sweet guy, and really knowledgeable, though his mind seems scrambled when he's teaching and it's hard to follow a language class with no distinguished structure. But he knows something about everything and will drive from Canada and stay late just to talk to his students. He is a wonderful and intelligent man; I definitely recommend him!

I want him as my uncle. He is the nicest guy and SO smart and he goes out of his way to talk to you and help you with anything. His lecture style takes getting used to though, as he is all over the place and teaches through stream-of-consciousness. There isn't much rhyme or reason to it, so just bear with it & talk to him about anything. Love him!

So Walsh is the absolute best, if you have experience in the class your taking with him. Four years of high school latin made his classes unbelievably easy but if ou are new to what hes teaching it can be confusing but worry not because hes such an easy grader you will do well anyway. Truly cares about students and will bend over backwards for u

His fatal flaw is that he knows way too much, however he is very understanding and makes sure you know what will be on his exams. He ended up canceling our final due to our last papers being handed back late. For this class, the only thing that you needed to read was the literature book, everything else I completely ignored. He's an easy grader.

If there is one professor that I would retake forever, it'd be Walsh. He is hilarious and so passionate about ancient history that even science majors love him. If writing isn't your thing, take one of the lower classes, 023,022 etc. We only had three exams and although they were mostly essay, they werent that difficult.

It is evident that professor Walsh is a brilliant scholar who is passionate about the subject matter. Unfortunately this translates in no way to teaching acumen. The lectures are long and rambling (and wildly off topic at times). He is not good at engaging a class, which with a reticent group is not entirely his fault, but it's still worth note.

This man deserves higher marks. He is amazing, super intelligent, and crazy, in a good way. Latin isn't easy, and he knows that, so he tries to make it so that you understand everything. He understands how much stress we are under and is an incredible sweetheart for that. So try hard, be nice, and he will be the best professor you've ever had.

He is a great professor if you like a lot of information on the topic. If you aren't interested in the topic, than he can be kind of far fetched and overzealous. However, he does include a lot of reading (some of it is essential but only for outlining the study guides he gives you) and there are a good chunk of projects, but they are fun.

He is very, very intelligent not just in Latin, but in so many languages. If you can survive his peculiarness by the first two weeks, you'll love him... He is one of the best and most caring professors ever. If you forget a homework assignment, he apologizes for not saying it too much in class. But don't use him.

One of the best professors I've ever had. I've had him for two classes and will be taking more. Extremely intellectual, down to earth, and passionate about his work and students. Highly recommended to anyone. The courses he teaches are not easy per se, but he makes them all very digestible to everyone.
