He is a great teacher and person all around! He works with his students and teaches so well. I am retaking this class because another professor at CSUN was terrible. Bruce cares and takes the time to make sure his students actually know the material. So happy to have taken his class, I learned so much! Uses XYZ and workbook!

Comment:

Great professor, he teaches the subject well and is great about responding to emails. The subject is tough, but as long as you go to lecture, pay attention, and do the assigned homework you will have a very good chance at passing the course. The quizzes and workload are completely fair. I would take him again for sure!

Not a very demanding class. Theres 4 quizzes, 2 group assignments and 2 presentations. Only the 2 group assignments are long but should be ok if you do them with time. Quizzes were easy, should be fine if you use the study guide. 6 min presentations teaching a high school geometry section. Great professor!

This was my 2nd time taking stats and Shapiro definitely was a godsend bc he does a great job explaining and working with you. Mostly quizzes one final but if you study theyre easy. Cant miss lecture bc hes fast paced but definitely recommend.

If you don't go to class it'll be hard to know what's on the quizzes because he explains what will be on it the class before the quiz & most of the grade will rely on the quizzes and final but prof. knows how hard stats can be and is understanding.

The class can be intimidating, however, Professor Shapiro understand that statistic is not an easy subject and he works for you not against you. That being said, you need to put the time and effort into studying because you need to meet him halfway in order to get the grade you deserve. I HIGHLY recommend taking Shapiro for Stats.

I went all the way through an engineering physics degree without really appreciating abstract mathematics until I took Numerical Analysis from Dr. Shapiro. Its funny that I should make that breakthrough in what most would consider an applied mathematics class. However, I really learned about analysis while taking this class.

If it weren't for him, I don't know how else I'd pass stats at CSUN. He made it really simple to understand, easy to talk to so ask questions, reviews homework/hard problems. HIGHLY recommend!

If you want to pass stats, take this class. First of all, get the textbook. All the homework problem answers are in the back and online. There are two midterms, one super hard one, but the second midterm is open note, book, and on the computer in class. All the problems from the midterm are from the textbook. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

he asks you to buy the book online but believe me no one uses it. He understands how hard the subject is and gives extra bonus points for both midterms. however to be honest i learned more stats on youtube than in his class because he kinda makes the subject more complicated. But if you do your work you will pass surely.

Professor Shapiro is the great math professor I've ever had!!! Super lenient on how he grades; curves the two midterms and the final as well as dropping 3 lowest quiz scores which are once a week. He has a special sense of humor and makes sure you get a good grade in the class. Go to class daily because you'll learn better when he explains upfront.

I took math 140 with him and he's honestly the best math professor!!! He's such a chill guy, he always welcomed any questions you ask and answers them in a helpful way. I am not good at math what so ever. That being said, he ended up curving 2 midterms. Do the hw!!! It helps out your grade. Do well on the quizzes and you'll pass math 140

Mad respect for Professor Shapiro, he definitely makes you learn how to code complex stuff and fast. He lectured every once in awhile, but that is expected for this course which involves mostly coding projects. However, I do wish he did harder examples during lecture, similar to those he assigns in hw. He lets you work together on projects a plus.

TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU SUCK AT MATH LIKE ME! I really felt hopeless at first & even though he does not take attendance, I really recommend you go to class even if you feel completely lost. ALSO, make friends in this class that are good in this subject to help each other out. Quiz once a week that you can take outside class. Goodluck! dont give up(:

AMAZING PROFESSOR. TAKE HIM. SERIOUSLY TAKE HIM if you dislike math. His grading is amazing, he is super fair and makes sure everyone passes! I didn't really understand Stats throughout the whole course but he gives tests that are open note & the final, you have a cheat sheet. He is SO NICE and funny. Totally RECOMMEND and would take again!!!
