Comment:
Media and Politics HI231 is his and Christopher Daly's brainchild. Lectures are laid back and they don't take attendance, but lose focus for 5 minutes and that 5 minutes could cost you a good chunk of the exam. You never really know what's important and what's not, and you just have to assume that you can be held accountable to every word he utters

Professor Schulman is the best lecturer I have ever experienced at BU. Everything is super organized and clear. Group project sucked, but not really his fault. Fun side assignments, only one big paper and no homework. Go to every lecture and you'll be fine. Always plays music, brings prizes for trivia, offers walking tours and free lunch. Cool guy!

Professor Schulman is fantastic. Like you I looked him up on this site and was impressed. His class is lecture heavy but a lot of the stuff is interesting because the history is recent. There is not a lot of homework and even extra credit opportunity. He really is a fun guy to have a class with and his guidelines are clear. You won't be sorry.

A really wonderful lecturer and professor. I think my favorite part was always that he had a point to every lecture--he argued a position on history rather than just repeating facts. Papers weren't hard, especially if you read the (very good) books assigned. Funny guy, too.

Schulman was one of my favorite professors at BU. He's hilarious and you don't want to miss his final lecture which he calls "Schulman's Finale." He made his classes fun by including music throughout history into his lectures and having contests to win random items that were relevant to the lecture. I always looked forward to his classes!

Schulman's a bit of an odd duck, but in the best way possible. He's highly invested in the subject matter, and very engaging. He's also quite funny, I wish I had gotten to know him better outside of class. Only downside is that TA's grade the papers, and the ones for the Spring semester were pretty shoddy. Otherwise, great professor, great course!

Schulman might be the best professor I've ever had. I admit that I am interested in history so I was drawn to this class but Schulman is the most engaging, most passionate professor I've had. His lectures are amazing! As for the people who are saying he's hard to get to know, just take your time and go to his lunches and you're golden! RECOMMENDED!

Schulman must be among BU's top faculty members. His lecture style is engaging beyond belief. He assigns a buttload of reading, but you can choose how much you want to do. The class only has two essays, both of which are fairly short. If you have any interest in American history, take this course. It is fascinating.

He's a great lecturer, but rating him is misleading, since your entire grade comes from the TA. There is an impossible amount of reading, but you can get away with only doing some of it. Overall, the class was highly enjoyable, just be prepared for the high level of TA-involvement, and low level of prof-involvement.

Amazing lecturer, great books, very interesting. More of a class on culture than his. He is pretty full of himself, not so helpful in OH and lets class out late all the time. TA just let class run itself, but really good in OH. Use the textbook and just make your papers really organized, you can argue what you want. Draw in a lot of the readings.

Lectures were good but consisted mostly of Schulman looking down at his notes without much elaboration. Strangely nervous around anything to do with gay history. Not the best professor, in general. A bring writer.
