I left her course feeling more competent and confident than I could've expected. Her attention to students' writing and feedback is unmatched in how got dang apt and helpful it is. The kind of prof that makes me feel like school is nice and worth it.

Dr. Chapman assigns manageable amounts of readings that were interesting. Participation marks are based on attendance and your contribution to class discussions. Encourages critical thinking and sharing personal opinions but will reject what you make out of a topic if she does not agree. Has high expectations but also an extremely lenient grader.

8 page paper on Dracula, or whichever novel she chooses for the paper. SO. MANY. BOOKS. Lots of reading... if she doesn't assign novels to read its usually 5 short stories or poems to read before class. Go to class - otherwise her reference slides on Connect will seem ambiguous.

First ever english course that I took that I hated. The "deeper insights" were such far reaches; so far abstracted from the text itself that it sounded like a 9th grader trying to prove themselves in an essay. In fact, if her entire course had been a paper, I would have given her a failing grade. Good person, but take another class if possible.

A LOT more reading compared to other sections! Only take this course if you LOVE books and/or in Arts! (Science students beware of getting your workload tackled)

Everything that is important is said verbally, her slides only have quotes from the novels. No rubric is given for the assignments, you do not know what they're looking for. Books aren't very interesting and are longer than other what other sections of ENG 110 are reading.

Super boring class. Slides are useless as the important information is discussed. Good luck trying to get everything she's saying written down. Doesn't explain her expectations or prepare you for assignments at all. Too bad I had to take this class.

She really knows her stuff and has very high expectations for her students. Lectures are interesting and interactive, and she gives wonderful feedback on each assignment. There's no final, just a research paper due on the last day of class. However, participation is worth 10% of the grade, so if you aren't a talker your grade might suffer.

Lectures are very in depth and detailed (also very dense) and are in fact very interesting if you get past her somewhat boring presentation style. I love her analysis and discussion of the texts (always very insightful)

Interesting prof. Book choices are really good. Chooses books with similar themes. Lectures are quite in depth which shows she's more used to teaching higher level english classes. Gives in-class essay topics a week in advance so you have plenty of time to prepare for it.

I like Prof Chapman and her class. She is intelligent and approachable and she works really hard to get her students thinking independently about whatever they are studying. I have had some awful instructors at UBC, she is one of the better ones.

I hate english and this course was a requirement for my arts degree, but she made it easy. I got a B on everything I handed in, including the final, which I studied for a grand total of 2 hours the day of. Class can be very boring, but pretty easy

Definitly a great dresser! Excellent style! As far as her teaching goes, she is very good and encourages class discussion, but sometimes she tends to lose the students a bit. Overall though, great prof
