Comment:
Pike is a really nice guy. He gets a bad rap because he's pretty picky about what he's looking for when he grades tests. He also really likes plants, so he gives them a lot of attention. He is very organized and clear about what he'll cover in lecture, and if you keep up with the not-so-bad readings, you should do fine on all the tests.

Nice guy, but very unclear. Tries to help, but is just too confusing. Wish I had taken this class with a different professor, any professor.

Horrible professor. Don't take his class. He's a nice person, but horrible as a professor. The worst monotone during lectures that aren't even necessary to pay attention to, besides the fact that he adds extra material that isn't always important/relevant! Oh, and labs are 5 times longer than necessary b/c he takes forever explaining things

Do not take this professor!! Prompts in class do not make any sense and do not help you learn. No acknowledgement of correct answers in lecture, rather he answers his own questions as he sees fit (even if you quote from the book!). Sounds like Ben Stein and puts you to sleep. Tests and lab grades are fair. Nice as a person, but bad as a teacher.

His lectures are very clear and well organized. He focuses on concepts, thorough data analysis and logical thinking, not text book regurgitation--that's why the exams are hard. If you want to succeed in his classes, you need to work hard. If you have a problem understanding a concept, he is always willing to explain it to you.

Abosolutely the best professor i've had. I've taken two lectures and two labs with him and would gladly take more. No other professor will make such an effort to help you and to make sure you learn everything you can and want to. Of course, he expects you do to the readings, participate in lecture and use office hours. It's totally worth the work

Theres a reason why this guy is teaching and not somewhere in the private sector: he has the personality of a dead moth. Stay away, and preserve a normal sleep schedule.

Pretty boring guy, though he does try to add (dry) humor when possible. Extremely boring in labs, and a tough lab grader as well. Tests are mainly lecture-based, and pretty straight-forward if you pay attention and take decent notes. Overall though, he's a really nice guy.

He's pretty boring, and focuses a lot of plants. He puts a lot of weight on lectures, so it sucks that his are so hard to stay awake for. Tests were fair for the most part, but he gave a somewhat unfairly big last exam. He grades hard on labs too.

PIke is boring, and will put you to sleep during lab. Only problem is that you'll fall asleep during his slide show that will be on your final. Ask the BIO220 class of the fall '04 semester, they will explain further.

worst class I have ever taken! Do not take a class with this professor. His notes make no sense. He randomly puts words all over the board in. He does not explain what he wants in his assignments. He grades very unfairly, and he is BORING!!

It is impossible to make him happy. If you think you wrote a great essay, he'll hate it and find something wrong with every sentence. Tries to be helpful, but is scattered and unfair.

Where to begin with Pike. He went to Harvard and Yale and i think all the studying fried the socail interaction part of his brain. He cannot talk with people, his tests much harder then rest of department, his paper grading is impossible. BOREING!!!
