Barton has some of the best methods of getting inside the heads of the ancient world. This professor is passionate, engaged, and cares about the material and her students. There are 3 seven to ten page papers that pretty much determine your grade (she allows re-writes). She is simply a fantastic professor Definitely take her class.

Carlin Barton is a great professor who loves her profession. The class material is very interesting and she teaches in a way that keeps your interest. Attendance is mandatory if you want to do well and its was a 9:30 class, but as long as you quote the texts in your paper you'll do great. Good class.

Amazing woman!Don't be fooled, the material is hard to grasp if your either not religious or you have strong religious convictions. She explains everything and goes out of her way to makes sure you understand. You have 3 major papers but she expects a lot from them. Go to class, pay attention, and you'll be fine.

Nice woman, great professor. Her global class on world religion is interesting, eye-opening and hard. I think its hard because most of us students(me) are not that religious but if you stick with it you learn stuff you never thought about before.

Don't be fooled. This class is not only hard but also a lot of work. I wouldn't mind if it was my major but its not and many parts of this course feels like I am learning Spanish all over again(concepts and vocab). This is probably one of the hardest classes I ever taken, the first two being math. Really, I'm not kidding.Beware not an easy Global.

Carlin is very nice professor who is an expert on Roman History. Couple things you should be aware of. You have to write 3 seven page papers with citations. In the honors section you have to watch a short film called The Blood of the Beast which shows you the horrors of the slaughter house. If you can stomach it then go for it.

UMass' resident radical skeptic. Enthusiastic about everything she teaches from Romans to religion. Always ready and happy to help her students. Absolutely my favorite professor. However, her 112 course is HARD. It's actually tougher than her 300 level courses (which I've also taken). Do NOT take it if you're looking for an easy Gen Ed.

Carlin is really passionate about the histories she teaches. I took Intro to World Religions with her, and the class wasn't hard, but it wasn't easy. Doing the reading really helped because sometimes she wasn't all that clear in her lectures. Over-all, I'd say she's a good professor, and I would take another class with her.

Very enthusiastic about the material. Sometimes lectures seem long but her ideas are all interesting and she is clearly a very smart professor. She allows rewrites on all papers and will help with any questions a student might have.
