She is a very sweet lady and a passionate lecturer. There is one midterm (STUDY!), two 4-5pg movie critiques, and a 8-10pg paper. I worked really hard and got a B+ (my only B at SDSU). Be careful when you do your references on the papers! She will dock you big time! You must come to class. There is no final. We watched movies & read 2 books

If you do not mind going to class you will love this one. We only had 3 papers, 2 critiques (3-4 pgs), and one research paper (7-8 pgs) The midterm wasn't that hard if you paid attention in class and did a little bit of studying. Also, Putko is nothing short of amazing! By the way you watch a movie once a month and they are actually interesting.

She is very organized and stayed on track with the course outline. Also, she knows the subjects very well and kept the class interesting. Don't buy all the books listed by the book store as required. Wait for the first class to find out what books you really will need.

dr. putko is an awsome advisor/instructor. class is challenging, but she definitely wants her students to do their best..very sincere, straight forward, nice, approachable person. those of you that want to teach Social Science, she's the best undergrad advisor to consult cuz she'll tell u exactly what u need to take.

what can you say about a professor who gives a blue book midterm as your enemy, 3 book critiques, cruel attendance, and 10 page paper! About that paper and everything else, she is by FAR a HARD GRADER. What did you expect from all that if you don't follow directions? You might as well blame yourself.

I love this lady. She is so interesting and nice. Unfortunately, I didn't love the class. Way too much writing for a history class (and I'm an engl major). Attendance counts as points, and the history paper was rough. I thought she graded fairly and she lets you know what's on the midterm so there is no room for failure. Recommed her not 406.

Hard class, 3 book critiques, 10 page paper instead of final...VERY HARD GRADER...midterm is a blue book test AND she takes very strict attendence...take this class ONLY if you are really interested in the topic...because it is not an easy A...but she is interesting and fun to listen to and talk with.

Boring lectures! Powerpoint presentations. 3 Book critiques that are easily graded but the one test, a midterm, is difficult. You are expected to remember 1/2 a semester's worth of events and people. not a multiple choice, rather a blue book exam. and one final 10pg term paper which she grades hard for. HAVE AND FOLLOW YOUR THESIS!

There is alot of reading and writing in this class. You have to write three critiques which she grades easy. One midterm which she requires you to know so much about history. You have to write a 10 pg term paper that she grades extremely hard. Shes picky with grammer and style of the paper. Too much writing for me.

Straight up. Not a comedy act but brings up interesting points that make one think about their own perspectives. For some reason, a lot of students skip classes when she makes it clear attendance counts. Then they act shocked.

I've had her for a history 106 class and she's an excellent professor. She's funny and yes, she does pick on students but she only does it in jest. And of course, every student must finish...her sentences at least once.
