really nice prof who teaches a fun class. make sure you do the readings cause thats all the quizzes are on. she's a pretty fair, easy grader if you do the work. take this class if food fascinates you... the only downside is you'll get hungry while you're there, but then during final presentations, people bring in food. definite plus.

Very good professor!! She really knows her stuff. I learned so much in her class. You do a fair amount of writing in her class but it is straightforward. She grades fairly. Definitely recommend this class to anybody!

Comment:

I was hesitant taking this class at honors level but I ended not regretting it. Shes very helpful and knows what she's talking about. We had 4 open book annotations quizzes, 2 of which were oral, and in groups, 2 take home essays, and one research field work. It's a lot of work, so if you're looking to slack this isn't the class for you. She's fun!

Counihan knows her stuff. Tons of reading a must to pass her annotation exercises (easy 10pts if you do the reading) Her class taught me a lot about the world and was very interesting. She's lively and keeps me awake during her 8am class. Easy to make a good grade if you put in some effort, not a super hard grader, but doesn't hand out A's.

Easy class, but the title is misleading. you will learn primarily about Chicanos (which is fine, but it's not the title of the course) and the readings are very VERY dry! Especially her husband's. She is great, I just wasn't very interested in the course.

nice woman,I really learned a lot about Mexican-Americans, their struggles, and their culture...the title of Latino Studies is highly misleading, you will only learn about Chicanos which is interesting I just think that the class deserves to be called Mexican-American Studies...I devoured the readings but I am really into activism, not a hard class
