I really enjoyed this class and improved my speaking and writing skills quite a bit. You have to really participate in class discussions to get a good grade. Honestly her teaching style didn't really mesh with my learning style so I probably would not take her class again unless I had to but I think she was a good professor overall.

I learned a lot in her class and definitely improved with my speaking, reading, and writing. At times the class was tedious because the whole semester was focused on reading one book, and a pretty weird one at that, but overall she's a good professor and I would take another class with her in the future.

Prof. Le Gouis is a wonderful professor. She is helpful if you ask and your accent will improve enormously in her class, that is if you speak up. As in any language class participation is required and expected and she will know if you have not done the required reading. She can be tough but so worth the effort!

She is delightfully Parisian with a dry sense of humor. Her expectations are all very clear (homework for whole semester outlined on the syllabus.) As with most language classes, participation does matter and she will most likely call on you even if you don't volunteer. I'd definitely recommend her classes though!

Amazing professor! She is so funny. All the readings are really interesting and she keeps everyone engaged when discussing them. She tries to encourage everyone. Plus, it's clear that she loves Mount Holyoke and she is very proud of the school and its students which is fantastic.

By far the best professor in he department. Has extensive knowledge in literature and her classes are often comparative literature. Discussions could have more substance.

Fair grader but difficult if you are not good with languages. Cold demeanor. But if you participate and try she respects your effort.

Absolutely amazing! She is incredibly intelligent and enriches every discussion with her array of knowledge. If you put in a lot effort and participate, you will be fine. Trust me: she likes those who say meaningful and thoughtful comments. I didn't have the best papers, but I still got an A because I participated so much.

Class participation is essential. She won't tell you in advance how your grade will be calculated. Clear syllabus, but more detail would have been helpful. All discussion is in French, so you have to pay very close attention.

Clearly knows what she's talking about in a literature course and even makes interesting points. Also very nice. But she thinks she's the best thing since sliced Sartre and it makes her seem very pretentious and dull when she goes on her long show-off rambles. It was still a good class.
