Comment:

I went through this whole class doing every assignments & getting passing grades on them all & got a D+ . Why ? Because missing more than 2 class sessions gets 33 points deducted from your grade every time you miss & I only missed 4 sessions in total. The only thing she accepts as a an excuse are doctors notes, which every emergency has no use for

Comment:

Retook the class for a better grade, and as a second year senior, couldnt believe how hard she grades. Discussions every week w journal, participation matters. One novel used for entire semester and all assignments based on this one book. She doesnt give constructive criticism, only points out everything that is wrong with your writing.

A lot to read - but can get away w/out reading. A lot of quizzes & DB posts, but very easy points! Exams are easy as well. GREAT professor that provides ALOT of extra credit. Learned a lot from her class! Writing papers seems a lot easier. You only have to write one BIG paper, but gives you plenty of time to do so with extra credit deadlines.

Comment:

I wouldn't take this teacher if you plan to take any other class. She gives way to much homework and expects way to much to get done. I wish I would have dropped the class when she so rudely told me to at the beginning of the semester because that class was terrible!

Comment:

She responds to questions promptly and posts your grades really fast with feedback. This class involves the typical discussion board posts (a lot of them but they're not hard), quizzes (also simple and short), 2 powerpoints and a paper. Very clear grading criteria for her assignments. The paper is broken down into steps. Lots of extra credit.

Super easy, but if you actually want to LEARN anything, this is not the class for you. The first day of class she split us into 6 groups which rotated each class period to teach a section of the book, SHE taught us nothing. She grades presentations easy (almost no logic to it) but grades written work hard... also shes a stickler for attendance.

Comment:

Very easy class. You present about 6 times. 5 as a group and 1 solo. Group presentations are presenting a chapter in the book. She lets you be as creative as you want, so some groups just made it into trivia games and just asked questions about the chapter. Papers are easy unless you're horrible at writing. She allows for rewrites. Very nice prof.

This class was very difficult. Cathy is a very hard grader as well, as if the assignments are difficult enough. I was at an A in the class before the final paper which I spent a LOT of time on and thought I did well on. The main comment she put on it was that she didn't like the thesis statement, and I got dropped 11% in the class. Rough grader.

Cathy is very passionate about writing. Took the online class and it is a lot of work!!! Make sure and contribute weekly as required. Failure to do so will dramatically affect your grade. Allowed re-writes on major papers as long as you're on time originally. I would still recommend the class.

Terrible teacher, disappears, grades papers erratically. Is very opinionated and facts won't change her mind. Fanatic about Titanic and file naming. Would never recommend her as a teacher, honestly the worse I have ever had.

Run away! Run as fast and as far from this one as you can. Won't matter what you do, she will grade you subjectively, not objectively. Make sure to suck up and you might do better. No guarantee though, she is inconsistent and opinionated. Two things that hinder learning, not that she cares about that. It's her way or the highway.

Comment:

Professor is very nice and friendly. You have to present every 2 weeks or so chapters from the book, but they are graded pass/fail. No problems. Writing assignments are easy enough if you follow the example from the book. Oral presentations were very easy, and I am scared to death of public speaking. The class actually helped me relax a lot!!!
