Dislike the class layout. Basically everything is online, yet coming to class is worth a lot of points. Very rigid learning environment. Lots of assignments. Self-taught online with some in-class application. Feel like that may just be the way the language system works, not necessarily her fault

Comment:

I had Prof Pons for all four years of my education at UNCA. She is intimidating at first but she is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to the language. She was extremely helpful to me, i think she notices and appreciates those who work hard. But if you are late or unprepared she is not going to be so nice and really that is how it should be.

Not sure why so many do not like her. Very positive and pushes you to learn. She is straightforward and by the book, will always call you out(and every student) in class. You must participate, which I didn't understand at first but it actually is conducive to learning French. Cares about students but don't expect her to hold your hand.

Comment:

Dr. Pons is one of the greatest. You will come out of any class she teaches knowing that you learned something; whether she pulls you kicking and shoving or you respect her for passionate aura you get from walking into one of her classrooms. Whatever you do, never assume you can pull one over on her, she is not that one. But she's always helpful.

I adore this woman. People say she's tough and look out if you don't devote yourself to her class. Huh? Aren't you supposed to devote yourself to class? To graduate you have to have two semesters of foreign lang and I'm sure she knows most are in there for that reason. That's a tough assignment, but she showed real passion.

Difficult woman. Not a good LSIC prof, treated us freshmen like we should've already known half the stuff she taught. Very judgemental, watch for the death glare if late or absent. Can be sickeningly sweet though and this is even scarier than the death glare. Competent but be careful if you don't plan on devoting all of yourself to her class

Very sweet lady but if you don't want to stand up in class or speak in class almost every day, then don't take her. Tests are pretty hard, so study for them. She's very lenient about homework - as long as you complete them all by the day of the quiz, she accepts them.

This woman is horrible. She picks favorites, if your late or miss class watch out for the death stare. I worked hard for the first half of the semester and gave up bc she wdnt give me anything higher than a C! She also expected evry1 to have a masters is french, 4 a class that wasnt french. She makes you not want to come 2 class. Dont take!!!!!!!!!

Dr. Pons can either be a good or bad experience, depending on the student. If you prepare yourself and participate in class, she's alright. If you ever come to class unprepared for a project, you're screwed. Frequently, though, she is unable to answer questions and can be very strict in terms of in class behavior (no talking. EVER). A mixed bag.

I understand how others feel about her having a "death stare"... But for me, struggling just to pass, when I talked with her she was understanding and practically held my hand through the whole thing. It's not an easy language, and I made the highest grade in her class out of the three I've had so far. Be honest, don't be late, do the homework.

this woman is truly horrid. she is very rude and disrespectful and for the love of god do not have questions. she is not helpful outside of class at all and expects you to have a masters in french when you are just getting started. I wanted to learn french bad but because of her I hate it and am switching to spanish. oh yah she picks favorites

I found myself dreading her- and i was super excited about french (i still am)- if you are a rock star at french and like to kiss a.. great. if you are a hard worker whose had too many years of spanish and don't like prof's who lean towards snarly- skip her.

Excellent professor. Extremely difficult but if French is your major this is useful. She's a pretty tough grader, but certainly fair. She will get pissed if you show up late for class,don't show up at all frequently, or don't have your assignments on time. All in all, she's wonderful and knows her subject extremely well.

the ponster is warm and likes to turn the class into a discussion group, however, be prepared for the beast if you dare show up without your assignments completed (or get a really good explanation). she's very helpful outside of class, but expects all students to participate and show interest.
