I had Dr.Jones for CMPUT 114 back when I was in CS in 2000, and even though she was great back then she's improved her teaching skills dramatically. I really enjoyed CMPUT 115 and the U of A is losing a great lecturer.

Comment:

Excellent approach to teaching a course most people thoroughly dread. She works exceptionally hard to dispell negative myths about computing science. On occasion, the 80-minute classes drag (due more to the dry subject material than anything else), but she goes over so many examples that you can't help but learn your stuff. Easy labs.

If you were in Comp. Sci. IB in high school and learned Java, this class will be a breeze. Lecture notes are online, and she basically goes through it in class. What else can I say? It's VERY simply Java concepts. Exams include some obscure programming error questions that are worth 3-5 marks each. Only thing that irked me. :/

Her explanations seemed really good, she seemed very interested in making sure everyone understood the concept she was explaining. However, I didn't like how the marks were distributed and the difficulty of some of the exam questions (some questions were about topics covered for under a minute in class)

Not a bad class/prof. Everyone seemed to complain about her, but the tests were fair and the averages were actually pretty high. She actually gave us a choice as to which questions we wanted to answer on a midterm. Sometimes she did rush through things a bit.

One of the best profs I've had. Truly interested in the subject material, and quick to offer help when needed. Satisfaction and results in this class were directly proportional to the amount of work put in to it. I would not hesitate to take another class of hers.

Cerian was a lovely prof - very helpful and patient. I took this class to fulfil some math requirement, but her instruction made the material so interesting that I would like to learn more about the subject. If you make a real effort to understand the material, she will treat you with respect.

God I didn't think she was very helpful at all. She likes to yell at students every so often, I think she has emotional issues. Makes the room very tense.
